    Birding Podcasts

I also listen to Tweet of the Day, but I really must listen to some of these other podcasts on birding. :) I have been a little resistant until now because I didn't want to be influenced by their shows, but I have found my own voice now so that is less likely to happen!

Thank you very much for listening to the show, Euan. I look forward to interviewing you about the birds you have seen, when we synchronise our schedules. :)

Common blackbird keeps my cats and us in stress

I'm afraid it is probably your cat that is causing the Blackbird to make that repeated sharp call. I have noticed over the years that Blackbirds (and Starlings) seem to have particular calls for certain perceived threats. The sound you describe has often alerted me to a roaming cat in our...

    Mystery Bird Call

I'll add my vote for an aviary bird - it reminds me a little of Ring-necked Parakeets, especially the quick repeated call, but I would also suggest a parakeet or lovebird. Does it always sound like it is coming from the same direction?

    The Vyne, near Basingstoke

Oh, that's really interesting. I felt that it was usually well into April before I started noticing Swallows, but I have this one logged this time so I can watch out for them in future years.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

My most recent 'life' bird was a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker on 28th March at The Vyne, in Hampshire. It was particularly relevant because I have a podcast and last week's episode was on Woodpeckers! It's a shame I didn't see it a week earlier because i could have included the sighting in the...

    The Vyne, near Basingstoke

Hi, New Member here. I have recently started visiting The Vyne National Trust property as an easy birding location with several habitats, that suit me as a casual birder. On my second visit there (28th March) I was rewarded with seeing a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, which was a lifer for me. I...

Hello from a Casual Birder in Hampshire, UK

Thank you, Andy For clarification, I only talk about my own experiences on my podcast, unless I have guests or contributions from people who submit their sightings / experiences by email. However, I am travelling several times over the next year and will be looking for ideas or birding hotspots...

Hello from a Casual Birder in Hampshire, UK

Hi, I call myself a Casual Birder, because I take pleasure in seeing the birds that are around me in my daily life. However, I also travel with birding in mind. I host a podcast about birdwatching that aims to encourage people to take more of an interest in the birds and wildlife around them...
