    ATX - stiff zoom?

Hi All. Mbb - We tested the stiffness of the eyepieces without the objective first, We then mounted them on the objective to confirm the issues with ergonomics. The SOC used was the Swarovski branded version. Joachim - The Nikon ED82 might be nice but is hard to find (at least I can't...

    ATX - stiff zoom?

So, we pitched up at Tring Astronomy and compared the zoom ring resistance to another eyepiece they had in stock. It was about the same....maybe a little less. :( We tried them both on the objective module mounted on a tripod. With a bare scope the resistance wasn't quite so bad as you could...

    ATX - stiff zoom?

Whatever the outcome, I'll let you know. Don't you just hate it when folk come onto a forum to seek advice and then don't provide a final update?

    ATX - stiff zoom?

Hi all. Thanks for your replies. The zoom ring is really stiff. It's not just a matter of finger and thumb. You have to work hard at it....certainly enough for you to lose the subject into which you are zooming :( I've contacted Tring Astronomy Ltd and have arranged to visit them...

    ATX - stiff zoom?

Incidentally, I've tried some searches on this issue to see if others have encountered this problem and, while I understand the zoom ring offers more resistance than the focusing ring, I was was not expecting it to be quite so resistant.

    ATX - stiff zoom?

Hi all. I recently bought an ATX85 kit from Tring Observatory. It arrived today. However, I have noticed that the zoom is really stiff to turn. I certainly can't zoom using one finger...I need to use finger and thumb and it's still difficult to zoom. Indeed, I have to change the position of...

Collins App - Issue with Location

Well eBird is OK. But it's not giving me what I wanted. the location is simply the local area e.g. Pennington Marshes. It's annoying as I have to record a track to start a list, so they must have the detailed location details? I was hoping they would show the track and the points where...

Collins App - Issue with Location

Logged onto the online Cornell site. Looks good. I'll have to wait until I record a track and some sightings before I comment further.

Collins App - Issue with Location

I've downloaded eBird and Merlin Bird Id. I'll give them a go. Good to have some photos to complement the Collins app and it nice to know that anything I record on eBird can be used for scientific purposes. This shouldn't be hard. All I want is a (reasonably) accurate location when I add a...

Collins App - Issue with Location

93 views but no reply. I guess this issue is just affecting me :( I've taken a look at some apps which claim to keep the GPS live on Android but, given I don't get the issues with Google Maps and View Ranger, I am not optimistic that they will fix the issue. What I would like to see on the...

Collins App - Issue with Location

Hi. When I try to add a sighting to a list, the app seems to be unable to consistently find my location. I have given the app location privileges and, sometimes, it will find my location but on the most part, the location is wrong or seems to get stuck on a previous location. I assume the app...

Need advice for Travel Scope and Tripod

It did arrive. We have used it but I don't think I can recommend it. It is very fiddly to set up but it's ok when it is. It's reasonably well made but fairly heavy.

    Keyhaven & Pennington Marshes

Still no sightings (by us) of the Bearded Reedlings but we did see 7 Eider Duck, 5 Whimbrel and 3 Spoonbill (Fishtail Lagoon).

    Dorset birding

It's a bit far for us to travel on a regular basis, so will have to fall back ob more local haunts in the New Forest.....however, I suspect we've missed the boat for now and will have to wait for the end of the year?

    Keyhaven & Pennington Marshes

Visited yesterday, hoping to see the Bearded Reedlings (Butts Lagoon). Sat on a bench overlooking the lagoon, playing a waiting game. However, we still failed to see them :( We did see plenty of Reed Buntings, saw a Cuckoo and heard lots of Reed Warblers. Lots a Whitethroat about, in the...

    Eurasian Hoopoe

Oops. I didn't mean to do this! I was just nosing around in the OPUS section of the forum. Looks like I got caught! :) I'd be grateful if an Administrator could delete this thread. Sorry. Phill

    Dorset birding

First visit to Morden Bog today. The weather was far from ideal! Highlights were a breeding pair of Dartford Warbler, Common Crossbill and Raven. Despite out best efforts, the Great Grey Shrike was not seen. We've had several attempts to see this species this year (sites in the New Forest &...

    Looking Leica pocket.

I have the Leica Ultravid 8x20. Really small...you can't tell you have them round your neck. Mine came with a nice padded case. I find them to be excellent for what they are but a touch on the expensive side. I haven't used the Trinovid.

    Issues with BirdTrack :(

BTO have finally got back to us. It seems the data was being loaded into the Bird Track Beta (Worldwide) portal rather than the UK Portal. This was not what we intended and we didn't do anything to make this happen. Had a quick play with the Beta version, we find it less user friendly and...

I can't believe the folks at BTO have still not got back to us regarding our issue.

Need advice for Travel Scope and Tripod

I can answer those question straight away (based on the reviews on YouTube) Q1 - Stray light can be a problem...cup with hand? Q2 - It's hard to set up...practise makes perfect? Q3 - It doesn't hold its adjustment too well...refer to Q2 That said, it is cheap but (apparently) well made. I...
