    Kowa TSN 4 value/thoughts

That's neat, where I bird we don't have anything at all like a hide (I'm guessing this is an enclosed semi-permanent shelter?) so I'm constantly walking or biking until I stop and re-deploy the tripod/scope. The closest thing that we have to a hide up here is probably our elevated wooden...

    Kowa TSN 4 value/thoughts

Thanks very much, I've gone and tested a few different scopes and from my first impressions I liked the angled model better than straight. Appreciate everyone's feedback, I was strongly considering this deal but the straight design vs angled and the lack of waterproofing have prompted me to...

    Kowa TSN 4 value/thoughts

A sincere thank you for the great information, I will definitely go to Cabelas and try a few angled scopes out to see which I prefer. I am not sure which would be better as I don't have too much experience with scopes in general. I plan on using the scope for shorebirds and whale watching, also...

    Kowa TSN 4 value/thoughts

Hi all, Have a chance to pick one up second hand and buyer is asking $600 US, It would be my first scope and seems in excellent condition. Fair price? Or would I be better off continuing to save for a used version of a more recent model? Since scope will be used almost exclusively for...

    Florida late November/early December.

I'm also going to be in Florida (central area near Orlando) during early December and was looking at the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands for a day trip. Any recommendations or other places that might be better? Also wondering what the mosquito situation will be like in December, any input...

Best bird guides by region...North America

Personally I find about 95% of my use of field guides is at home, either before or after birding. Only rarely do I actually carry it afield with me. Is that markedly different from how others utilize them? If I'm specifically targeting a rarity I'll use a sticky tab on its page and maybe bring...

Best bird guides by region...North America

Looks like the ABA has added Hawaii and it's birds to NA, hopefully our major field guide authors (sibley, NG) will do the same! I can't be the only one who has been frustrated in The past by lack of representation for island birds in our major guides.

Field Guide to the Birds of Hawaii and the Tropical Pacific Revised edition

Doesn't look like they met the original schedule, does anyone know if the new edition will ever be finished?

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a NA guide that includes birds of Hawaii as well? Displaying my geographical ignorance here, not even sure Hawaii is part of the continent technically...

RFI: Anchorage 1 day guided birding

Hi Paul, Not that I know of, and this is probably too late for your father's holiday, but Anchorage Audobon has several members who might be willing to oblige cordial visitors with a few stops at local hot spots. Best, T
