Plover at Al Khor Qatar Oct 2023

Looks suspiciously like dealbatus. Probably not, considering the location, but I read somewhere (TM), that there are more dealbatus-like birds wintering in the middle-east.

    Wheatear species Cyprus May 2024

I guess he means Oenanthe melanoleuca, Andy (I am not sure how the british view on this species is, they are a bit old-fashioned on taxonomy). And I agree.

Indian Ocean - 560 km NW of Australia/ Falcon

It is a difficult bird. But light phase Eleonora is especially rufous on the belly, which rules out pergrine in my opinion.

Indian Ocean - 560 km NW of Australia/ Falcon

Looks suspiciously like a Eleonora's falcon. Very unlikely on that location, but you never know and they are long distance migrants.

Lewis and Harris is awesome too. Also, there is a nice book about birding in Scotland.

    Ukraine in October

Ukraine is quite far off the main birding routes. I visited the country twice, and planned on visiting a 3rd time. As I was not there in October, and only visited the Crimea in September, so I can't help you. But i got quite some help from the facebookgroup Birding Ukraine.

Most difficult W Pal species to see anywhere?

Still few people visit those areas. Also Sicilian partridge might be difficult if you want to see a pure bird, I heard hybrids are difficult to recognize in the field.

Most difficult W Pal species to see anywhere?

Hmm, I see you all talk about the old WP, for the new WP (including the entrire Arabian Peninsula and Iran). If you include that area I think Yemen warbler, Yemen thrush and the split Magpie are currently very difficult.

    Pitta's in Shah Alam

According to ebird the birds are only there in the winter. Fascinating, considering that the climate in Kuala Lumpur is not that different from south thailand. Unfortunately on ebird it is impossible to find the exact location other than that the birds are somewhere in the park....

    Pitta's in Shah Alam

Marsh Owl at Lac de Sidi Boughaba

Not sure, it might very well be that Oukaimeden is inaccessible. But then the birds might be lower in the mountains, it is a simple one-way road after all. I think Acrocephalus can tell you more about it.

Marsh Owl at Lac de Sidi Boughaba

Me and my friends had the Francolin the first morning we tried. But the views where poor. This was compendated by the lovely area. You are going mid-march, right? The passes over the Atlas might still be covered in snow and Oukaimeden will definately be under snow.

Marsh Owl at Lac de Sidi Boughaba

Good idea, the Zaƫr is a beautiful area with lots of birds. Ik think you can enjoy it for quite a while.

Marsh Owl at Lac de Sidi Boughaba

This is a difficult bird and one day with a guide in Merja Zerga might not even be reliabale. There is one observation on morocco.observado.org from last year for Sidi Boughaba, but that is a heard only. I was there in 2012 and although there where a lot of people, didn't find them any more...

Kunkilling forest acces & Egyptian plover & ferry crossings

Hello all, I have booked a holiday to Gambia for Februari. I am planning on visiting the interior on my own with a rented 4x4. I have some questions however. - How can you acces the Kunkilling forest best? Gosney just gives a coordinate from the closest road. Some people use a boat to get...

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

I really doubt if any destination in Europe will add more than the 17 new species/day Arjan needs (except Spain). Adding some tropical destination is probably better.

Contact details for Cat Tien NP

Thank you very much. I guess I won't need a guide, as I heard most targets are not too difficult given time (and I prefer to find birds myself). I always like to overnight in a park, waking up with the birds is the best there is. But if no appointment is necessary, things should work out. Also...
