    Feather ID - Sussex, UK

I think this is just a pheasant feather but would like a second opinion

Would you tick the male White Stork at Knepp?

Personally, I probably wouldn't. Although I am on the fence about it hence posting the question on here. I feel that with the many reintroduction projects and escapees in the country I wouldn't be confident that this really is a wild bird. If I were to go to Knepp now, i'd probably just enjoy...

Would you tick the male White Stork at Knepp?

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but i couldn't find anything on the other threads. What are peoples thoughts on the male White Stork at Knepp? Would you tick it? Obviously, the tagged birds are't tickable as they are reintroductions, and their offspring wont be tickable until a...

Yellow Wagatil - flavissima or flava?

I've confused myself with this yellow wag I found at walthamstow marshes in london today and could do with a second opinion whether it's a blue headed or not. Thanks.

Travelling to Cat Tien from Ho Chi Minh City

I have just returned from a trip to Vietnam, including some time in Cat Tien. Before going I read a lot about the various ways of travelling there from HCMC, with many people suggesting getting a bus towards Dalat, getting off at a particular junction then getting a moped the rest of the way...

    Birding around Hoi An

Thank you for your advice. I had a fantastic morning cycling around this area and picked up loads of new species!

    Waxwing

As mentioned, the WaxwingsUK twitter account is a good place to check - https://twitter.com/WaxwingsUK Seems they are coming over the border into Northern England, albeit slowly

    Non-Territorial Robins

I have always thought (European) Robins to be territorial birds, especially as the weather gets cooler. But over the past couple of weeks i have had three birds living in my garden who dont seemed concerned with each other. Why would this be? Could they be related? Or are they just not as...

    Birding around Hoi An

I will be visiting Vietnam in early April next year. I'll be going with my girlfriend who isn't a birder and therefore it isn't strictly a birding trip. However, we have factored in a couple of days in Cat Tien, for which I have found loads of really useful information for. We'll then be moving...

Bay of Biscay Sea Safari with ORCA and Brittany Ferries - Aug '18

Being on the ORCA trip gives you the benefits of having the upper deck to yourselves and a group of spotters to point out things that you may otherwise have missed. However, you could definitely do the trip independently and see plenty.

Bay of Biscay Sea Safari with ORCA and Brittany Ferries - Aug '18

Yesterday I returned home from a three day Sea Safari cruise from Portsmouth to Santander and back to Plymouth with ORCA and Brittany Ferries. In planning this trip I read several trip reports from when these cruises were run by Company of Whales but very few from the new route so I thought I'd...

    non-birding partners phrases

Recently, while out for a meal, one of our friends declared their love of avocados. My OH said "you're like a resplendent quetzal" then quickly blushed when she realised this wasn't a normal comparison to make.

    Menorca May 2018

Sounds like a good trip. It's nice to see a report for Menorca - I went a couple of years ago and really struggled to find any information. It seems like a seriously under-birded place with most people heading to Majorca instead.

    Country listing on pelagics

Like many birders I keep country lists, adding to these when I re-visit these countries. This summer I will be going on a pelagic trip from Portsmouth to Santander and was wondering how country listers deal with these trips. Presumably I will be passing through British, French and Spanish...

    eBird Spreadsheets?

I click on Download Histogram Data and it automatically downloads it as a .txt file. However, i have managed to convert that into an excel file now. It's a little more long winded but at least i have the data i wanted. Thanks anyway

    eBird Spreadsheets?

This issue has raised it's head again. When i go to export the data from eBird I'm not given the option to open with excel and instead it just downloads as a useless encoded (.txt) file. Has anybody else experienced this and found a way to resolve the issue?

    Cornwall Seawatching in May

I will be down in Cornwall for May bank holiday weekend (24th-29th), staying around the Lizard. I've never tried seawatching before but thought i'd give it a try while I was down there. What would i be likely to see this time of year?

    Goshawk kill?

Over the weekend i was walking through a woodland in East Sussex and came across this kill. I was hoping someone could shed some light of what the prey and predator may have been. You can see a line of faeces by the fur which suggests a bird of prey. The fur looks like it could be grey squirrel...

Tripod and head combo for ED50

I realise that these two combos may be too heavy at around 2kg. The Benro TSL08CN00 carbon fibre tripod weighs in at a lot less - 1kg. However, I am 6'1" so the 146cm max height could be a little short? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Benro-TSL08CN00-Slim-Carbon-Fibre-Tripod/dp/B071JYLS7K Also, do...

Tripod and head combo for ED50

I bought a Nikon ED50 last month as my first scope. Ive been using it as a handheld since then but am now looking for a tripod for it. I'd want this to be lightweight so it doesn't negate the benefits of having such a small scope. Also, i dont want to spend more than £120 on the whole set-up...
