    Window safety/basic first aid

Again thanks for the further responses... and interesting regarding the BOP stickers i felt sure they would put some of the birds off! There is also no shortage of wine corks here! That sounds like a great plan and will try hanging them down from the curtain railings.

    Window safety/basic first aid

Thanks! Thanks so much for the responses guys, all very helpful. And yeah it's just becoming a bit too common... the baby starling this morning was alive for a few minutes in my hand before going peacefully.... I layed her on the grass for a mere minute whilst I went to get the spade to bury...

    Window safety/basic first aid

Evening folks... Just wondering if a) there is anything you can do/put on windows to stop birds flying into them like a poor little baby starling did today. I tried everything to help it but to no avail he died in my hands.... and b) are there any basic first aid tips or things we can do when...

Thanks for the info all. Just back from Dubai, nice to be back to the later light nights with the sun out. 3 weeks of uni deadlines to get across the line then there will be plenty of outings!

    Mandarin Duck

Yes Phil us too! Me and mum chose to have a walk around Thornes for the first time in a long time and glad we did (bar the litter and them seemingly chopping all the trees down)! Will be heading back to keep an eye out and will post any updates. The little guy seemed alone but looked mighty...

    Mandarin Duck

Just spotted this little guy at Thornes Park in Wakefield. Didn't know we had any in these parts apart from Lotherton Hall and the likes? Are there a lot in the area? Could only spot him and no females, looked a lonely little guy!

    [UK] Owls

Awesome! A friend of my mum lives on a common here and says she gets a pair of them on her back wall every now and then between 2 and 4. I'll be headed up there on Sunday for a few hours to check it out!

    [UK] Owls

Thanks so much for the info, Paul! Excellent stuff. :t: I figured the same regarding humans lack of sight being a reason, good thing I'm mainly after sound anyway, i can get camped out for the night. A sighting would merely be a bonus. Cheers again.

    [UK] Owls

Evening guys, This may seem like a silly question but I'd like to ask it before I venture out for the entire night! I have read that barn owls are more commonly spotted just after dawn and just before dusk... If this is true, would it be consistent with other owl species? Basically, I'd like...

    Help with locations for recording?

Thanks Arthur, and yes! An absolute nightmare! I will have a venture out to Wheldrake in the near future. I actually found a spot called Half Moon on Heath Common in Wakefield that seems to be OK. Located in a valley most road noise is put out, just have to be clever with train/flight path...

    Help with locations for recording?

Evening all, I'm doing some nature recording for a university module (and hopefully work). Aiming to get kind of an 'am to pm' theme focusing my material on birdsong but aiming to get some sounds of the night as well, potentially owls, bats, and the like. I have experience in the field...
