Hi Does anybody know the details of this year's bird race at Fraser/Bukit Hill?

    D300s rubber grip

I glued my D200 rubber grip a couple of days ago, so far so good. Made a liitle bit of a mess but the glue when dry rubs off very easily. This grip hasn't been exposed to high temperatures but has experienced some horrible winter weather this year. No problem with the body or Nikon lenses just...

    D300s rubber grip

I've had the same problem with 2 Nikons, probably best to get some glue and stick it down yourself. Another case of Nikon failing to learn from mistakes and repeating them over and over again.

    the Gap Resthouse

Hello Blancheliu :t: No luck with the owl, we tried again the next night but it didn't show. I walked down the New Bridge road you told me about, very enjoyable, saw lots of gibbons :-O I hope to be back next year, perhaps in March, although it is not the best weather, very humid and very hot...

    the Gap Resthouse

The hill side has required a huge amount of stabilising work to make it safe. The bedrock is limestone and the big problem has been ground water and taking it away from the area so it doesn't cause anymore landslides. There was still a little work to finish off and it was very interesting to...

    the Gap Resthouse

Thanks for your interesting reply. The new bridge is on the road referred to as the New Road to Fraser's Hill which continues past the Tamil School. A good road to walk, lots of gibbons and I was told of a tiger and cub seen along it last year :t: The bridge has cost RM20million and is the...

    the Gap Resthouse

I was at Fraser's Hill earlier this month; the new bridge was almost complete and should be open any day now if not already. I was talking with the main contractor while watching the construction work and got the facts from him. So the waiting to go up or down the road to Fraser's should be a...

I did see possibly the last one there a few years ago but they are now long gone.

    internal flights

The devaluation of the currency will not help matters. More poverty, more crime, more attacks on "rich" birdwatchers.

Thanks Niels; Now that's an interesting possibility for the future. Will have to do a little research.

Thanks for your reply. I cancelled last month (a first). So looking for somewhere else to go.

    Nikon D4 Rumours

Quite old info as the date at the bottom is March/April 2009. Nothing heard of since??? A little further searching brought up the D800 instead of a D700s or D700x. None of which will be affordable to many. Video has become the norm in a very short space of time.

Does anybody actually go to Venezuela anymore? There are no trip reports on here for a year or so.

    internal flights

I've been doing a little more searching. Merida airport does still seem to be closed to commercial traffic. Flights instead to El Vigia down on the lowlands then take a bus up hill - an hour or so?

    internal flights

Hi I am presently planning a Feb 2010 independent trip to Venezeula but am having trouble finding flight details to Merida from Caracas. Is Merida airport closed still after a major accident there? Is it possible to book any internal flights online from the UK without going through travel...

    Brown Hairstreak at Ifield

It has been an excellent season for Brown Hairstreaks at Bardney Limewoods in Lincs. Pretty much guaranteed every visit, even the low down, open winged shots have been regular. http://www.flickr.com/photos/adiroyle/3856764315/

    Boquete or Volcan

I visited both places in Feb 2009. Boquete had excellent birding at Finca Lerida where I saw 3 quetzals. Boquete is very touristy, Volcan is dead, just a regular town. I stayed up the road at Cerro Punta at the Hotel Cerro Punta, no need to splash out a load of money for the other place. Plenty...

    Macro: Sigma 150 f.2.8 versus Nikon 105 f.2.8 VR

Fitting it to the lens wouldn't be the problem, getting it to work with the lens was what I was thinking about. I don't recall seeing anything in the manual about using it with anything other than Nikon lenses. Worth a try though I suppose. I find it very useful as I do a lot of insect...

Yes I do with the 105VR. Does it work with the Sigma?

    Macro: Sigma 150 f.2.8 versus Nikon 105 f.2.8 VR

A dragon example taken with a 105VR; http://www.flickr.com/photos/adiroyle/3609858387/ I'm not sure if I would want to be carrying around a bigger lens than this 105VR. If you want to specialise in insect macros then this is an ideal lens. It can easily be used handheld, the VR really does help...

    Macro: Sigma 150 f.2.8 versus Nikon 105 f.2.8 VR

I regularly sneak up on dragons with just a 105VR, down to minimum focusing distance, maybe complicate things occasionally with an extension tube.
