    Crow with discoloured beak

I thought this was a rook from a distance, but on closer inspection turned out to be a crow with a whitish beak. It looks as though it could be some kind of fungal infection?

About as close as I could get without wading. The birds were on an island in the lake.

    Gull I can't Identify...

This is one of the gulls in question. It looks quite a bit bigger than all the others:
  5. Waxwing!

    Waxwing!

Well I thought I'd missed the waxwings everybody has been seeing this year, and then lo and behold! They appear in the tree outside my house. Anyway, it's a rubbish picture, but the best one I had chance to get. I was too busy watching them with the bins before getting the camera.

We've turning soil/digging and the robins were going mad over it. At one point there were 4 of them, fighting over the newly dug ground.

Thanks KC. Delia, I thought it was a young one as it seemed to look more downy/fluffy at the time and in some other pictures I discarded. I also thought it looked small too, but maybe I'm just used to seeing mistle thrushes. Happy new year.

    Gull I can't Identify...

No, but I'm beginning to think it was some kind of mutant :). It looked just like a herring gull (a few negligable differences) but with a totally different looking beak.

    Gull I can't Identify...

Nope, I don't think so. The colouration was similar to an adult, but more white prnonounced patterning in the tail feathers like a herring gull and it had a noticably bigger (and different coloured) beak. I have the camera so I'm going to see if it/they are there tomorrow morning.

    Gull I can't Identify...

I went for a walk this morning and saw a gull i don't recognise. It looked big at the side of blackheaded gulls and had similar black and white tail feathers to a herring gull, but It had darker wings with a small light or white coloured bar on them. It had a huge light peachy coloured beak and...
