Spotted in a Minnesota parking lot

Not identifiable by me at least. However I can see why you think it could be white-tailed kite (I don't think it is)

    A few from Lima, Peru

It's a tropical kingbird. Extent of white, head colour etc

Various Raptors - South Essex UK - 12th May

A google of "rolling shutter effect birds in flight" (for example) provides your starting point. Has been discussed in relation to some modern, high-end cameras like Canon R5, R7 etc fairly extensively. Some of the distortions you will see are quite extreme.

Gull, Salton Sea, California, USA 12 May 2024

Looks like laughing gull to me

North Vancouver - Lower Mainland B.C

    looks adult

    A few from Lima, Peru

It was variable hawks for me. Everywhere. Surprised we have not seen pics of black vermilion flycatchers yet

    Raptor in South Louisiana USA

    Yes broad-winged

    A few from Lima, Peru

On this basis, we can infer the primaries fall short in one of the 2 original "shiny cowbird" pictures (5), further evidence it's actually scrub blackbird. In my peruvian experience scrub blackbird's actually a pretty common urban bird

    A few from Lima, Peru

This "west peruvian dove" looks more like eared dove to me. That also has a black neck patch but also has dark spots on the wing. I think we can see those in amongst the artifacts here. We can also see a hint of a dark line leading back from the eye (not always clear in this species). The WP...

    A few from Lima, Peru

These 2 are a relatively recent split: "white-winged" used to cover both. The west coast birds are now west Peruvian dove The bill on 5 is difficult to assess but may be better for scrub blackbird (longer, thinner, less like an equilateral triangle)

    Winnipeg Canada - warbler? (Sparrow?)

A sparrow (bill shape). Perhaps clay-coloured from the buffy underparts but if so duller than those I've seen.

    Besra or Shikra, Taiwan

Do the finely barred thighs point to crested goshawk?

    Wader (Fuerteventura)

Which means the right is in shadow {the black parts of the legs), and the left part (the "pale" part) indicates the real colour of the legs---they certainly are not black One cannot both say that the image is so full of artifacts as to be uninformative and then suggest that something as small...

    Wader (Fuerteventura)

Yes it's about interpretation of the colour of that "pale border". I agree it's subtle (so people will disagree) but I see the colour here to be reddish or perhaps orangy---this of course making allowances for the obvious problems with the images
  15. T

    Wader (Fuerteventura)

It doesn't. But it's very difficult for me at least to judge leg length. Most of the right leg seems to actually be backwards-pointing foot
  16. T

    Wader (Fuerteventura)

Only the front part of the legs show anything like the true colour. The black is an artifact, possibly caused by shadow (although I'm struggling to understand the direction of the ambient light here). The true colour might well be orangy: appears somewhat reddish to me. So I think turnstone is a...

Warbler Id, South Padre Island, TX, USA

Still fine for Tennessee I believe

Maybe 2 Vireos, South Padre Island Convention Ctr, TX, USA

Agree: note large bill here. In OP photos, first image gives impression of delicate bill, second appears more robust [but still not as big as here suggest]

Mandarin and firecrest there today... [31 species total]

Reliable site for swifts around SE London/Kent?

I only dare venture out when armed to the teeth with binoculars and smart phone. Occasionally a fleece is a necessary safety net if my survival skills prove not to be up to snuff.

Reliable site for swifts around SE London/Kent?

Swifts are back in Peckham park (at least). Can be seen anywhere but most reliable from the SW corner looking in a SW direction. In evening may hawk low over the lake

Maybe 2 Vireos, South Padre Island Convention Ctr, TX, USA

(Broadly echoes my thoughts. In contrast, as I noted, bill is short/wimpy for black-whiskered, there's no black whisker. I'd add that the pale lines on the face are rather more contrasting with the background than I'd expect. In summary, perhaps warbling but with doubts)

Maybe 2 Vireos, South Padre Island Convention Ctr, TX, USA

Your cassin's looks more like bell's to me. Not seeing strong white lores and eye ring here. Less sure about the first: it doesn't shout black-whiskered (I've recently seen lots: not seeing the whisker here and the beak doesn't look big enough), but I can't unequivocally assign it to warbling...

    Austin Texas

Looks like female lesser goldfinch (note wedge-shaped beak which shows it's not a warbler)
