    Stopping down a binocular

Correction and apology. Please see this post by me in another thread a few days ago. The un-stopped image in the above 2 binos is, now, to me, distinctly better!

Bino Steve, thanks. That is, however, rather more difficult and involved in this part of the planet! Did try.

Zeiss Conquest v Leica Trinovid 10x32

Correction and apology. At the time I wrote the above I had, for decades then, been holding a binocular away from my face. If the eyecups touch my face I had, and have, a nearly instinctive wish to wipe them. To avoid this I always held a bino very close but without contact. It is only since...

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

NatureLover123, Holger, thanks. That'll be 6 degrees, I guess, when others follow the Swaro. NL design. Maljunulo, sorry, OCD/fixation/... And here are two current threads on BF, this with 199 posts as at yesterday, this with 178 today! (Photo off internet. No infringement intended.)

Help! Coatings on Victory SF being... weird?

The US retailer Eagle Optics closed down at the end of 2017. Like others on BF I remember the co. and their staff with gratitude. This email in 2011 from me to them, with the photos sent in my previous, links to the topic of this thread. I replace my distant location on the planet with [x] for...

How sharp should the view be for a Nikon Monarch M5 in 8x42?

The only Nikon Monarch M5 I have used is the 12x42. A Celestron Granite 12x50 showed more detail than the Swaro. EL 10x42. Then bought this (new) thinking it too would show more detail than an "alpha" 10x. It showed less detail than the Leica Ultravid 10x25. (Immediately gave it away.)

Do the owners of both Zeiss SF and Swarovski EL/NL feel they are uncomfortable for the different color cast?

Henry, thank you, that is very useful to me. But now another task for me please! (Henry, others.) I'd like to know how you would describe the difference away from fidelity in the Conquest (in that photo). Warmer? More red? I'm pretty poor at this. Maybe one reason is not having needed to state...

Do the owners of both Zeiss SF and Swarovski EL/NL feel they are uncomfortable for the different color cast?

Within Zeiss (only, please, for the moment!) majority perception seems to be: SFL neutral, SF greener. Addressing this to those who see SFL as neutral (and only those, please, for the moment!): how does Conquest and Victory Pocket (each) rate? Thanks. (Where I live it is impossible to try out...

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Actually, I thought the foll. meant your companions will carry some of your binos for you :), hence my comment! "I am still young enough to bring three binos but I would rather have company if I do which makes it easier to manage the whole circus it becomes..."

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

HenRun, thank you, again. What you further explain about "focusing through" is noted and I will check--and possibly find it is something I experience but have not observed! Following birds in flight thru. handheld 15x maybe no-one does! The MeoStar 12x50 is, of course, meant to be primarily...

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

HenRun, thank you very much. Very high praise for the MeoStar-HD 12x50 by others "before your time" in BF I had already indicated to you by post and/or PM, and items I missed can be found from the thread headings in the Meopta subforum. Your ideas on the MeoStar-HD 10x42 too are useful to me...

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Nethero, I just wanted to know about the MeoStar compared with each of SF and HT--sorry if I was not clear--but thank you very much for your post all of which is really useful to me, personally at this time! BTW, I found Leica "too red" and Zeiss "too blue-green" for me and hoped, from a lot I...

Brief review of Meopta Meostar B1+ 8x42. (in comparison with Zeiss Victory SFL 8x40

Nethero, other than those two aspects, i.e., sharpness and clarity, and brightness, could you please briefly list the definite--to you--pros and cons of the MeoStar vs the SF and vs the HT, thanks. Also, if B1+ then it had to be HD?

SWAROVSKI AX VISIO: MY LEARNINGS IN A NUTSHELL

Canip, thank you for that report, following thorough testing, with fine analysis, and extremely informative, all as expected from you; and for sharing, again as usual, experiences which you are fortunate to have that many of us are not to help us decide on bird and nature optics.

    Decent High Powered Binoculars

I take it Binastro means Kenko UltraVIEW porro. Curious, I just did an internet search for "ultraview 12x50 price". In the search results the 4th is from a shop in the UK where that model is GBP 24 ("Sale Price", but the website says it's sold out). The 5th is somehow for a Leica Ultravid-HD+...

Brief comparison between Swarovski AX Visio 10x32 vs EL 10x32 Swarovision

Jackjack, I have the Conquest 10x32 which AFAIK has the same body as the 8x32, and the distance between the centers of the eyepieces and the centers of the objectives are the same. Maybe for you to use the bino comfortably you have to widen the eyecup side to 69 mm although your IPD is (post #28...

Brief comparison between Swarovski AX Visio 10x32 vs EL 10x32 Swarovision

Jackjack, sorry to take this a little off the track. You say about the Leica UV-HD+ 8x32, Swaro. EL 8x32, and Zeiss Conq. 8x32 "the distance of the center of the objective lenses is uv < el < conq". May I know, from you, what are the actual measured differences? You/others: In three 8x32 binos...

    Lee Thickett (Troubador) - R.I.P.

My apologies and condolences to all concerned. I intended to post on this thread, put that off (a chronic defect), forgot, and then thought I had done so, mistakenly thinking of my post in the recovery thread for him. Lee was always prompt and thorough in kindly responding to my questions or...

    New AX Visio 10x32 binocular

Jon.Bryant, thank you for your response. Sorry I've been too brief. I was not thinking at all about EVFs, or anything I know exists now! I imagine moving up to the eyes a future device (and that future is I reckon nearer than most think) in the way we do a bino today and seeing the same or...

    New AX Visio 10x32 binocular

Congratulations to Swarovski on this fantastic achievement. With the advance of ID electronics there will be, far sooner than most here think, a sub-forum in BirdForum for these devices. The dislike and resentment of classical binocular bird watchers here astonishes me. We will continue to use...

    What's the latest on Meopta?

Thank you, Tenex. It is strange that Meopta should enhance optically, design and manufr. two configs. to be sold only thru. Cabelas. Am undecided among 10x32, 10x42, and 12x50, in MeoStar HD, to add to a 15x56. After your post searched more on the 'net and came across an unused "MeoStar HD"...

    What's the latest on Meopta?

Gcole, thank you. Why do you not use a 10x32 bino which you have and praise? I ask because I have a Zeiss Conquest 10x32 which "does not agree with me" and am thinking of possibly replacing it with another 10x32, now possibly a MeoStar 10x32 HD (please see above).

    What's the latest on Meopta?

Gcole, sorry, but I've lost track of some of these accounts, so could you please recap: You prefer, or did, (1) the view thru. MeoStar 8x32 B1.1 to that thru. MeoStar 8x32 B1 Plus, and (2) thru MeoStar 10x32 B1.1 to that thru. Zeiss Victory FL 10x32, and you now use, or have, Meostar B1.1 in...
