    Advice please

Hi Matt, I use the Manfrotto 128RC video head but I am not sure if it is still available as I bought it about 13 or 14 years ago. However, check out www.manfrotto.co.uk for the current video heads available. Joe

    Advice please

Hi Matt, Regarding the tripod I would suggest that when you get your scope that you take it to a camera shop and try out the different tripods to see which one feels most comfortable for carrying around while out in the field. I have the Swarovski ATX 65 scope and use the Manfortto 190XDB...

    better focus with a Teleconverter?

Hi Gordon, Using a 2x teleconverter you probably will lose 2 f stops and as a result will be shooting at f8. If you are using the camera in woods then you will have to compensate the loss of light by increasing ISO settings to maybe 800 or higher. Higher ISO settings can lead to an increase in...

id from description, no photo, cheshire, uk

I agree, sometimes when a bird is viewed from a distance and there are no other birds in the immediate area for size comparison the size of the bird could be misjudjed.

Rose Coloured has a complete black and is pinkish on the back . Although Nuthatch is not Blackbird size the description of grey back and top of head and Zorro mask from beak through eyes would suggest Nuthatch.

Nikon Coolpix 4500: Overcast and Over-Bright

Calvin, Aperture Priority is my preferred setting. I always use f5.6 or f6.3 for bird pictures as it gives a shallow depth of depth thereby throwing distracting background out of focus. At f5.6 the lens would then be wide open allow in maximum light and a faster shutter speed. F8 or higher will...

    ID confirmation please - Romania

Hi Cristian, The legs look brownish in the two pictures which is the usual leg colour in Willow Warbler whereas Chiffhaff has very dark brown or greyish black legs. Joe

    ID confirmation please - Romania

The legs, particularly the left, look more brownish rather than dark which would suggest Willow Warbler. The right leg looks dark as it is in shadow. I agree with Eduardo that the pp projection does not look that short.

Nikon Coolpix 4500: Overcast and Over-Bright

Calvin, if the highlights blow out you could try to adjust the exposure settings in the camera try -1/3 or -1/2 stop to see how it goes. If the darker areas are then slightly underexposed you can always bring up the detail in Photoshop or whatever software you have avalailable. Detail in darker...

1 is a Honey Buzzard, the small head is one feature in telling it apart from Common Buzzard.

Would you tick this sighting of a Little Bittern ?

I would count it as a tick.We have all experienced birding trips when we get a fleeting glimpse of a bird and sometimes not been able to ID a bird on our own. In this case you could not ID the bird on you own but if you feel confident to rely on other birders present to ID the bird go ahead and...

    Pipit ID required

Thank you very much to all who posted comments. The picture was taken in quiet harsh sunshine. The supercilium is what drew my attention and the bird did look overall paler than two other definite petrosus that were feeding in the same area. One of those birds had a much less obvious supercilium.

Hi all birders, I photographed this Pipit recently in Co. Galway. I am not familiar with Scandinavian Rock Pipit and am wondering if this is one?
