Yes, I can see that now, Thank you!

    VietNam: possible Bunting?

I found this old photo of a bird at Mang Den, central VietNam. Very poor photo, I know, but the face pattern is fairly clear. Is it a bunting?

    Nam Cat Tien, today

Thank you, Grahame - all those things are indeed visible on the photo - the chestnut undertail, if visible, would have been a bigger giveaway for me. I'm a very slow learner!

    Nam Cat Tien, today

Yes, it does look like a Bulbul, doesn't it?

    Nam Cat Tien, today

Is this a Buff-breasted Babbler? It's got a ring on its leg (illegible).

Nuthatch with yellow bill in Mang Den, VietNam

That's what i thought was more likely, given the tiny eye, although the bill doesn't look the usual bright-red.

Nuthatch with yellow bill in Mang Den, VietNam

It's got a yellow bill, but it doesn't look like a "Yellow-billed Nuthatch" to me. What do you think it is?

    Large gulls in VietNam

These two gulls were at a high tide roost with Caspian Terns at Tan Thanh beach (Go Cong) on Dec 16th. Poor quality images because of long distance (3000mm lens). They were larger than the Caspian Terns.

    DaLat Flycatcher

I see. So this used to be called the klossi form of "Blue-throated" rubeculoides, but is now the klossi form of "Hainan Blue" hainanus

    DaLat Flycatcher

I don't see many blue flycatchers and I'm not up-to-date on nomenclature, so can you tell me the Latin name of this one? Cyornis xxxx? Maps suggest it has to be Indochinese Blue (sumatrensis) in DaLat, but does this name also cover the "old" Tickell's Blue? (I have lightened them in Photoshop...

    Nam Cat Tien, Vietnam

I knew it would be something simple!! Here's an Ashy Drongo taken on the same day and a bit easier to identify.

    Nam Cat Tien, Vietnam

Sorting through my photos taken earlier this week, here's one I'm still struggling with

Butterfly in VietNam (Phong Nha, C. Annam, ca 200m asl)

Brilliant! There were males around and I didn't know the female was so different. I have bookmarked that website

Butterfly in VietNam (Phong Nha, C. Annam, ca 200m asl)

This is such a striking species - I just haven't been able to match it with anything on the internet!

    Nghe An, northern Vietnam

I think these 2 photos are the same bird. It looks like a Barwinged Flycatcher-shrike, except for the white OVER the eye, so what is it???

    Flycatcher in Da Lat Vietnam

Thank you all - I've seen males in the same area

    Flycatcher in Da Lat Vietnam

Is this an ordinary Asian Brown? It looks a bit dark.

Bird in Da Lat Vietnam last week

I suppose the white in the flight feathers is a bit of a giveaway!

Bird in Da Lat Vietnam last week

I've been looking for a bird with black streaks on its face!! You think they are just shadows? That would explain it.

Bird in Da Lat Vietnam last week

Here it is. About the size of a Sibia.

    Thrush in DaLat, Vietnam

We've had the Rock Thrush in the garden for a while (picture with white throat attached), but I was mislead by the video into thinking this one was a much larger bird. PS, Andy - a male was still there at Ta Nung on Dec 9th

    Thrush in DaLat, Vietnam

Trying for a better video but No - still the same incomplete video
  23. G

    Thrush in DaLat, Vietnam

I'm guessing this is a White's Thrush rather than a Scaly Thrush because of the indistinct black cheek patch. Is that right? Is there an easier way to tell the difference? THE VIDEO DOES NOT SEEM TO UPLOAD PROPERLY (bird is "frozen" at the 9th second out of 10 seconds)

    Flycatcher in Da Lat (Vietnam)

Ah, yes - I see what you mean. I thought it had an eye-ring, but perhaps it doesn't. There's certainly a trace of the double wing-bar and Mugimaki's are very common here, though the pink chest is usually even more obvious. I should have got that one!

    Flycatcher in Da Lat (Vietnam)

Is this just an Asian Brown? I'm not sure what to make of that trace of red on the neck.
