    Done a few of these now and they're always an adventure. Just got back from the last - 3 weeks, Santander to Tarifa and back again, 215 species, 1 'lifer' - Snow Finch. Struggled for a few - not 1 Snipe, Meadow Pipit or Common Tern but plenty of highlights including Lesser Crested Tern...

    Teminck's Stint in the Steppes

    en route for the high arctic taiga no doubt, this Teminck's was very confiding, a juv I reckon. Got this along with a flock of 32 Ruff at Laguna de Petrola, Castilla la Mancha, Spain last week in very inclement weather!

    I'm on 5 week birding tour of Spain, had some cracking birds (see the blog) but sofar dipped out on these 3 Dupont's Lark Wallcreeper Little Bustard Extramadura to come so ever hopeful!

    Some good wader numbers building up in the Lower Derwent Valley just now with good numbers of Ruff, Dunlin, Oystercatchers, Curlew, one or two BT Godwits and masses of Golden Plover / Lapwing. Couple of Berwick Swans in with 90 or so Whoopers in fields along with a few White Fronted Geese nr...

    Heslington East & Tilmire (York) today

    Finally got around to visiting Hes East on the university campus and was rewarded by good shots of the long staying overwintering Green Sandpiper and Knot still present there. (pics attached) Tilmire was quite but 14 Common Snipe flushed and a flock of 65 Redpolls were both notable records

    No idea on the passerine ... some kind of 'white eye' maybe but although I'd love to say Broad Billed Sandpiper, i'm thinking Sanderling and then Lesser Sandplover for your waders.
