    Warbler from Turkey

Looking at this on a proper monitor, the plumage tones do look much better for Lesser Whitethroat. Bill still looks big though.

    Eastern Orphean for me.

    Norfolk birding

Hi Phil, My understanding is Mandarin can be seen on the lake at Felbrigg all year round but can be sporadic in their appearances. I saw them on two of four visits last year- both late in the year- but they are regularly reported. Make sure to check for birds roosting under the trees on the...

Surely this is a Great Reed? I have no experience of fuscus but can any Reed Warbler really look this brutish? Will

    Norfolk birding

Walked the south side of Breydon Water this afternoon. Didn't see another person or, unfortunately, the Richard's Pipit that's been about. Best of the bunch were 23 Avocets and 2 Med Gulls (almost certainly loads more in the gull flocks in the distance) but loads of Dunlin, Grey and Golden...

Got the train to Sheringham this morning with the plan of getting the Coasthopper to Salthouse. Only thing is, the bus didn't show up.... apparently it broke down in Cromer. Made do with a stroll along the seafront and a short seawatch. 1 Purple Sandpiper (roosting on boulders in front of the...

    Norwich Birding

Pleasant stroll around Whitlingham with half the population of Norwich today. 7 Shoveler and a brief Kingfisher on the Little Broad were the highlights. Strolling back into town another Kingfisher was by riverside (in the buddleia that overhang the bank opposite Chiquitos). Will

Geese galore at Cantley early afternoon. c500 Pink-feet and c30 Whitefront along with the usual Canada, Greylag and dodgy Snow Goose type. A group of 20-30 very distant geese were almost certainly the Taigas but everything was flushed by a helicopter and I failed to relocate them on the deck...

    Norfolk birding

Managed a very average view of a Lapland Bunting as it skulked out of the wind in the field west of the beach road at Salthouse today. The only other bird of note was a Red-throated Diver close inshore, alongside two male Mallards. Will

    Norfolk birding

So I went to Sheringham today... it was bleeding cold. 11.30-14.00 produced: 31+ Red-throated Diver- 27+ east, 2+ offshore and 2 west 1 Great Northern Diver- east 1 Red-necked Grebe- east, nice and close in 2 Skua sp.- very distant at 13.20... probably Poms but not certain 2 Common Scoter-...

Is it worth giving Sheringham a few hours tomorrow lunchtime? What do people think? Relatively inexperienced in Norfolk seawatching. Cheers, Will

    Norfolk birding

A couple were seen a week or so a go but no news since. http://yarevalleywildlife.synthasite.com/bird-notes-2014.php Not sure of the status of the footpath between Cantley and Buckenham at the mo. I know they were doing works after flooding but would have thought this would be completed by...

    Grebe in North Wales

Tricky one. It looks very black and white and the peaked crown suggests Black-necked but need some better pictures. Will
