    Birders and photographers

Vivian & Mono, you have described the situation in a lot of hides & are spot on. My wife & i, have only been birdwatching proper, for 3 years & have noticed a change, even in that short time. We find some photographers, do not appear that interested in the actual birds or wildlife, many seem to...

    Broadfield farm,thames chase,Upminster

Star bird at Hanningfied. My wife & i, spotted a star bird at Hanningfield visitor centre today. Alex Polizzi, famous for her 'Hotel Inspector' programme, was in the centre with a film crew. There to do some team building with EWT staff, the action was forced inside by the wet weather. A life...

    A Cure For Sparrows

Just be grateful that you have sparrows & enjoy them. Our Sparrows are in decline here in GB. I have a nestbox for sparrows on the front of my house, used at the moment by Blue Tits. You have too many, i can't get enough, funny old game.

    WWT London

London WWT, will give you great views at the Sandmartin bank. Should be plenty of nesting Sandmartins at this time of year. Our visit in spring, gave us Lapwing chicks & Ruddy Duck, Ring Necked Parakeets a plenty. Scan distant high buildings for possible Peregine Falcons. As with any reserve...

    Broadfield farm,thames chase,Upminster

I enjoyed a productive 3 hours at Forest Chase,Upminster, today. After a tasty bacon sarnie & a latte, in the centre`s lovely cafe, i ambled around half the reserve,to find, 3 Buzzard, all together up in the thermals, 1 female Bullfinch, showing well in a treetop. 1 pair of Chiffchaff, 1 fly...

    Blue Tit Strange Behaviour!

Our Blue Tit box is on the rear wall of our house, level with our bed inside. The sound of our roosting Blue Tits tapping away, was worrying, until we realised what was making the noise. I once lined an old box with cork floor tiles, cosy for the tits i thought. When i cleaned out the box in the...

    Bird ID needed

My first thoughts were Songthrush also. They can be surprising songsters if you really study them. The treetop location & times also points to Songthrush. Hope you solve this one.

    Why do you bird? Therapy?

You all mirror my reasons for birdwatching. I also fished & enjoyed the peace, fresh air, the wildlife etc. 45 years on, i no longer fish. I now prefer to know that the fish are in the lakes & rivers, swimming free, without the need for me to trap them with a baited hook. The more i think about...

    Nuthatches

Hi Rob, I have yet to find a Nuthatch outside their noted territories. Hanningfield Reservoir, always looks a great sight to me for Nuthatches, so many Mature trees. Never a Nuthatch reported as far as i know. EWT Warley Place, is a small woodland reserve, where Nuthatch is guaranteed. Is it...
