Advice for birding in SE AZ... in winter

The Nutting's can be tough to get, depending on how well the County repairs the only road into the area (the road is currently in bad shape due to monsoon rains), and where the bird(s) are showing. The last few years one was showing regularly next to Planet Ranch Road; you could just park and...

California Solar Plant Kills 28,000 Birds a Year!

No, but there are other problems associated with photo voltaic panels, such as birds mistaking them for water in a desert environment: http://www.kcet.org/news/rewire/solar/water-birds-turning-up-dead-at-solar-projects-in-desert.html

USA Shutdown, impact on state parks?

Amazingly, those idiots are boy scout leaders. Their excuse was the balancing rock was a hazard to hikers. |=(| The parks and refuges are back in business. I am in a local National Wildlife Refuge Friends group, we were going to have to cancel an event if the shutdown was not over by Oct. 17.

    owl in Tucson

Were there horizontal bars on the chest? I have seen burrowing owls in trees, and they are about that size, even the hatchlings this time of year. There is no white above the eyes, but young birds dont always show that. I cant tell from the photo how feathered the legs are but they do look a bit...

    Southern Nevada - quick question

According to the site it is open 24/7 but to be sure you should call WMA once you hit town at (702) 397-2142 The ABA Nevada listserve would be a good resource for you to get an idea of what is being seen; it covers all of Nevada but you should be able to find posts with lists of sightings for...
