I feel your pain re the overheating! What we experienced in the hides in late spring whilst just taking stills was definitely a cause for concern. -

Sounds about right but it's not exactly unexpected. I would suggest that three hours aint really enough to form an opinion. I haven't got an R7 but I'm sure I would use it every time in preference to the 7D2. -
Is it really "must have" Adobe Photoshop for excellent redaction of digital photographs?
I pay £120 per year subscription for Photoshop. It plays an ever decreasing role in processing since I bought DXO and I ask myself do I need it? It's only the price of half a pint of beer a week so I hang on to it.- MJN

None whatsoever. It looks like both you and I agree on my comment. I didn't write that with any bad feeling, it's just how it is. -

For years it's been quite obvious that he has a fetish for buying top of the range gear and has the spare cash to indulge himself in it. I personally think that he's not yet got past the point - and never will - of knowing how operate any of it to more than two per cent of its potential. -

My thoughts weren't about UK pricing John, that's pretty much fixed by Canon and the UK retailers won't have much if any room for manoeuvre. I was hoping for a solid, weather proofed body, stacked 24 - 28mp sensor, a considerably bigger buffer and perhaps quad pixel af. I'd happily have paid... -

Crikey! It's a full £1000 less than I thought/hoped it would be! There will be some serious compromises, I'm going to sit on the fence for quite some time. -

I think it may be £2400. The cost of soaring prices and hi tech material shortages will be evident when this hits the UK dealers. That said I'm very interested in one and it would be a pleasant surprise if it's any less. -

A 14 day trip abroad photographing migration saw me use the the R5 for 2 two hour sessions every day. I had two freezes in total so no complaints. -

I beg to disagree, my experience is quite the opposite. Simply being closer is sometimes anything but simple and the overwhelming majority of bird photographers will already be using a long lens. There is an option of supposedly lossless CRAW which reduces the file sizes by roughly 50% and... -

Upgrading for a 7D which way to go?
FWIW, with plenty of practise you can fine tune a tap sequence on the shutter button that will reduce the fps in electronic mode. It's not something that I've personally tried but I've read about a few people advocating it. 12fps is nearly always plenty for me as it is. -

That's a cracking image Kevin. I've read a few complaints from peeps on various sites about issues with firmware 1.5, many resolved by a reset and some are not. I've decided to hold fire for now. Interestingly Canon rumours have posted a link to enable a firmware downgrade. Cheers. -

I'm using DXO 4 Elite to convert the R5 RAWS and it does an excellent job, I'm not upgrading to DXO 5 as the major change is that it includes support for Fuji cameras and not much else. The biggest plus for me is that I've cut the time to process an image down by half when compared with Adobe... -
Getting ready to purchase L series lense, looking for recommendations.
Assuming you intend to hold on to the 7D2, the 100-400 you mention is a truly excellent lens and would serve you well. It will work for BIF with a 1.4x attached but would not be my choice for fast action. You may struggle to get the desired background blur with this lens. Perhaps also consider a... -
