Water Pipit or "littoralis"Rock Pipit , Ayrshire, Scotland

This Pipit is confusing me slightly as the very white underparts and obvious white supecilium and upperpart colour are telling me Water Pipit going into summer plumage, but the heavy straking on the underparts make me think "littoralis". Anyone now and tell me why?

    Jackdaw? in Scotland

After 40 years of birding , I don' often get stumped by common species , but I don't mind saying this ones got me baffled. I thought it was a juvenile Jackdaw becaue of the head pattern, bill shape and colour, but it has a dark eye. The bill colour seems wrong for Carrion Crow and shape is wrong...

    Raptor , Tramantunas ,Mallorca, 3 October 2018

Hi , I stopped at Gorg Blau Reservor in the Tramantunas Mountains and took out my bridge camera to photograph some scenery. I wish I'd got out my good camera and got a better shot of this. I thought at the time it was a Griffon , but I'm finding the pale tail a bit puzzling. It also seem to...

Bird of Prey, Addo Elephant Park, South Africa

A non-birder friend of mine took this and wants to know what it is.I suspect Common Buzzard , but with photos am not confident to call it.I don't like that pure white undertail for example.I've never seen that on a Buzzard.

Mystery Wader ,Cairns Esplanande 22 feb 2014

I took this photo without looking closely through the wader flock. As you can see there are a lot of Great Knot,1 Eastern Curlew ,a couple of Godwits,red-necked stint, and a few Terek Sandpiper.Maybe it's the perspective, but I thought the big dark wader near the centre was a Tattler, but it seems...

    Mallorca 16 May to 23 May 2013

This was the worst May week since 1935 according to the locals...not always wet, though there were one or two downpours, but cold to the point that for the first time I used the indoor pool at the hotel on 3 consecutive days. The day temperature peaked at anything between 14 and 18 centigrade...

    Glaucoides or Kumlien's

This is a 4th winter bird,as seen from horn colour to base of upper and lower mandible and light areas of brown shading on the greter coverts. It has an obvious 5-o-clock shadow round the eye ,and is quite well blotched on the neck/breast which can be attributed to not being an adult bird. The...

    Ayrshire Seabirds

:t:Over the last two days Saltcoats and Stevenston Point have been the place to be. Today ,for example,I and several others, had over 500 Long-tailed Skuas at varying distances down to good views. 8 Pomarine Skuas ,4 Arctic Skuas and 1 Bonxie also showed in a 5 hour seawatch. From Stevenston...

    Birders Behaviour

o:)I notice fromthe announcement pages that birders have been in Chipping Norton to see the Oriental(Rufous)Turtle Dove. It is one thing if they are locals on their own patch, but another if they are twitchers. The reason I say this is it was quite specifically annnounced that the neighborhood...

    Argentatus at Shewalton,Ayrshire,Scotland

:t:Here's some photos I took today of what I assume is an "argentatus"herring Gull. It is 2 gulls behind the Great black-back. In the photos the mantle grey(what little there is of it) looks darker than the "argenteus"Herring Gulls, but it wasn't so apparent in the field. It was as big as ,if...
