    Fody on Reunion

See attached image of a fody, taken on Reunion in January 2019. I presume this is a Madagascar fody; but the neatly demarcated breast band and brown belly is not what I expect to see on a Madagascar fody. Can someone please help explain the plumage?

    Unprecedented wagtail roosts in Singapore

In the past month two wagtail roosts have been located in densely urbanised parts of Singapore. Initial accounts suggest that this behaviour has not been recorded in these locations before, and maybe never before in Singapore. The main species involved is grey wagtail. Numbers are in the low...

New Caledonia suggestions - February 2017

I will have the chance of a short (4 or 5 days) layover in New Caledonia in February 2017 - my first visit. I would welcome advice on how best to manage the limited time I have to maximise birding options. Priorities would be to focus on endemic landbirds with kagu as the obvious #1 target...

    Singapore escapee ID please

Hi. This black finch like bird has been puzzling observers in Singapore recently. It is not a local, and as an obvious escapee, where to start? I have not been to see the bird myself and am sharing images from those who have. Please respect that these are their images. The bird is reported to...

    Good news from Ascension Island

Following the successful eradication of feral cats from Ascension (completed 2006), several seabird species have been moving back onto the mainland. A recent count suggests there are now 1,500 pairs of masked booby breeding on the mainland where there were none 15 years ago. While the size of...

Hi, Many thanks for the opportunity to share this information through Birdforum. I would like to make it clear I have no financial interest in this company, my only interest here is in seabird and marine conservation. One exciting development in the ongoing campaign to prevent albatross...

Hi, During a recent trip to Guyana a pair of nightjars was encountered during the day on a rocky hillside/cliff near Surama. The male was seen briefly and flew off showing more extensive white in the primaries than would be expected on a blackish nightjar. The female remained in the area and...
