is bridge camera dead? Canon/other manufacturers are unwilling to come out with new one?

as above. Didn't see any new release. P950 was quite old (3 years old). Sx70 was like 5 years ago

Do Sigma lens (120-300) depreciate in price and should I get this?

I was aiming to buy a used sigma 120-300 OS for US$2300 (e.g. the owner claims to have only used 3 times). This lens buy is not urgent as I have a 400mm f5.6l. My question is 1) Will sigma lens (especially this) appreciate in price suddenly till it become too expensive to buy? 2) Is it a good...

    Manual lens for birding?

I currently have 400mm f5.6l. I was wondering if I don't do BIF, will I be better off upgrading to a manual lens like canon FD lens (Assuming I have infinite time framing my shot)? I am usually doing videoing. For example, I saw a 300mm FD f2.8l (I was thinking to use a 2x on it) selling for...

    Next upgrade from 400mm f5.6l - Sigma 300mm f2.8??

What is the next upgrade? Sigma 300mm f2.8? This lens is cheaper and only cost US$2k second hand. With a 2x teleconverter, will it beat 400mm f5.6L?

Digiscoping with Telescope vs Spotting Scope

    1) Does telescope or spotting scope will have better optical performance? 2) I understand a telescope gives a inverted image. But it will not matter when you are digiscoping right? 3) If I have $2000 and wanted to buy a good combo of telescope and DSLR, what will you recommend?

Will this digiscoping adapter fit my binocular and camera?

GO people recommend me this, but they said "just make sure it is big enough to cover the eyepiece". How do I know whether this is big enough to cover the eyepiece? I am using 28x110 GO bino and IXUS 850IS

Is one side of bino equal to a refractor?

I have a 28x110 which i used for digiscoping. I was thinking whether if a upgrade to 80mm refractor will improve the digiscoping image? If one side of binocular equals to a refractor, then it will not improve as the refractor is 80mm and my bino is 110mm in diameter

Minimum focus distance increase after lasik!!!

I used to be able to focus my 28x110 binocular at 100m distance before lasik. After lasik, I cannot focus anymore as I have turned the knob to the extreme already. Anyone recommend me a way to fix this problem?

Planning to digiscope with 28x110 binoculars. Please advise

I have a GO 28x110 Binoculars which I left it in the storeroom and I will now have a hard time retrieving it out. Before I proceed with Digiscoping with the 28x110 binocular, I have some questions which I hope to get some answers. Q1) I tried digiscoping using HS10+Zen Ray 10x42 binocular. To...

Image quality of spotting scope better than binoculars?

My 10x70 Fujinon binocular cost $600 and it is so small. I digiscope with it and got ok result. I was wondering if I buy a celestron reflector which is 1) heavier (heavier==better result) 2) the same price (the celestron IMO value for money because we do not have to pay a premium for fujinon)...

Digiscoping vs. Canon 550d crop mood

Will 550d replaces the technique of digiscoping? With a effective crop of 7.2X and a crop rate of 1.6X, it multiply to 11.52X. That means a normal 135mm f2 will become a 1555mm f2, which give a ability to take super telephoto video at low light. Am I too stupid to state this statement? Is...

    center focus control question

Just wondering, when we adjust the central and then the right eyepiece relative to the left eyepiece already, can we just lock it and forget about it. For instance, if we adjust perfectly in the daytime, will we need to readjust at night again?

Will I need exit pupil of 7mm in a concert?

Hi, I tried to research on this but cannot find an answer. I love going to night concert and require a binocular. I am going to get a Zen-Ray bino due to the good review on them but I am unsure which one to get, whether should I get a 8X42 or 10X42 or 7X50. The problem is I am now using my...

Should I get a spotting scope when I already have a 10X70 Fujinon

Hi I am new to birding. Heard good things about Swarovski scope which has a diameter of 65mm and 85mm. If I only need it for 10-15X magnification as I am viewing birdings that are quite near to me, should I get a Swarovski scope and a eyepiece that give me 10-15X magnification (If there is any)...

    F-stop value for Digiscoping?

Using digiscoping, I acheived 1000mm using 70mm diameter binocular. F-stop should be = 1000/70=f14. However, with the crop factor of 5X, the focal length should be 200mm and the F-stop is 200/70=f3. Wooh that a impressive f-stop. I am confused whether should it be f14 or f3?

How does STARTRAVEL 600mm f5 compare with Sigma 500mm f4.5?

http://www.pulsar-optical.co.uk/prod/telescopes/sky-watcher/short-tuberefractors/startravel-120/az3.html This cost <$500 while Sigma 500mm f4.5 cost >$3000. This huge telescope is like a 8 feet big guy fighting against a 3 feet dwarf (comparing the size of lens). I really doubt the Sigma lens...

    My Digi-bino experience (Please help)

Had a Fujinon 10X70 and IXUS 850 (no manual focus). tried to use it for digi-bino. I used 2 layer of toilet paper roll and rubber band. Here are the pictures. http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/5896/img2206u.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/9388/img2202q.jpg...

The missing link of tele prime lens

    I found that <$1500 we have canon 300mm f4, 400mm f5.6. I found that >$4000, we have canon 500 f4, 300mm f2.8. However, there is no lens between $1500-$4000. Why?

Confused about the value of digiscoping

I came across a calculation in which focal length is divided by the diameter of the digiscope in order to obtain aperture. If a 10x zoom eyepiece is attached (500mm), does it mean that the effective aperture is 500/88.3 = 6? Does it mean the DSLR, when attached to the digiscope, function as a...

A little question on crop factor

I am choosing between whether to buy a Canon or Olympus DSLR for birding. I am wondering why so many people here choose Canon when Canon crop factor is 1.5x while Olympus is 2X. It is about 1.4 times extra and wouldn't it be wonderful for birding? Why do birders here like to choose Canon DSLR...

Crop factor, is it the same as cropping yourself?

I am a newbie in birding. Initially, I was amazed by the optical zoom camera and camcorder offer. For example, the highest optical zoom for compact camera is 26X and highest optical zoom for camcorder is 70X. After reading up and understand crop factor, I realized all these are marketing...

Binoculars vs Spotting scope in terms of brightness

Hi, I am quite new to this forum. I have been using my Fujinon 10X70 binocular for quite a while and found that its light gathering ability is good. Recently, some salesman introduced me spotting scope and I was quite amazed that it can easily zoom 20X. As the salesman told me the diameter is...

    digiscoping in low light

Today I tried digiscoping using my binocular and the result was quite good. However, with my Fujinon 10X70 binocular and my 3X P&S camera, I was only able to get 30X. I was wondering whether will the result greatly improve if I use a spotting scope which has much high magnification. I notice...

    Binocular Vs Camera Vs Camcorder

Can anyone please explain to me the difference between a binocular vs camera vs camcorder? For example, Panasonic had a 70X optical zoom which would beat most binocular and camera. To get a slighter higher zoom lens for sports action, I think one has to fork out more than $20,000. If the...
