    Common buttonquail?Gambia,Nov '17

Just a single shot here, taken with the flash at dusk. Assumed a pigeon at first, but buttonquail seems a better fit to the black primaries etc. Welcome any thoughts!

    Mystery distant challenge, Gambia

On a tree top by the river at Tendaba camp, Gambia, Nov. '17. Tough I know. Pretty sure about the red on top of head (if was CA in the camera then it would be visible on the leaves too). But only birds with red on top of the head seem to be woodpeckers, and this looks passerine.

    Terns/gulls, Gambia,Tendaba,Nov'17

Hello. So, gull-billed tern, black-headed gull? and the small one in the middle? Help me!!!! On a marshy area a mile or so inland from Tendaba camp.

    Bird of prey, Gambia

Buggered if I can figure this out. Terrible picture, sorry. I think I did a 'brighten shadows' thing in photoshop on one of them. Was taken somewhere like Georgetown (Janjanbureh) - somewhere up river, maybe further. November 2017

Warbler, near Lukla, Nepal - Mar'17

Two duff shots - greenish? Single wing bar, biggish (orange/yellow -but not black) bill, head pattern suggest it to me....

Near Bahir Dar. Straight and brightened versions of image 1. Long tail eh? Also blurry image 2 moments later - shows chest better.

    Raptor(presumably) Ethiopia, Mar'16

Out of the coach window between Addis and Bahir Dar (much closer to the latter) - birding never stops! Nothing seems to fit.

    Tern, Lake Tana, Ethiopia.

March 2016. Species present are White winged, Whiskered, and gull-billed, according to my Helm guide. Most that I saw were white-winged. But I just cant make this into any!

Stork? Bahia Dar, Ethiopia, Mar '16

From some distance I'm afraid, bad light too. Abdim's stork? A toughie for me.

    Owl, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia

March 2016 - Hotel Tana by Lake Tana. No good idea of size, but suspect not huge. Perched up at dawn.

Mystery - Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, Mar'16

So at 1800m altitude. Whats this then? Ive possibly whittled it down to flycatcher/bulbul/babbler/drongo but even that could be wrong. EDIT the area is close to water, not arid.

    Steppe Eagle? Simien Mountains, Ethiopia

Last March. I suppose my concern is just how broad the wings look, as well as being generally rubbish with raptors.

Hiya, photographed in a valley above Thame, Nepal, so around 3800-4000m altitude.

No idea - ~3500m altitude, Nepal, Himalayas

Flying next to (or behind?) A himalayan vulture, what could this be? There were lots of H.Vultures in this group. The odd large billed crow and red-billed chough also. A little way above Namche Bazar, eastern nepal, pretty high up.

    Warbler, nr Phakding, Khumbu, Nepal.

BOP & cuckoo? Debre Libanos, Ethiopia, March.

Hi folks. The difficulty of IDing birds months later from photos demonstrated here.... These were all taken in the same space of 1 minute (13:54 on 25th March '16) from the Ethio-German hotel, overlooking the gorge. Which gives you an idea of the volume of confusion Im dealing with. The large...

Off to Ethiopia Mar 6th to 26th!

If anyone has some good, cheap, birding recommendations (ie good cheap tours for 2-3 days) that would be great. Or places to go on public transport with good bird potential. What would be even better is if someone else is gong then too, and would like to split the cost of a trip for a few...

Waders and terns! Wilpattu NP, Sri Lanka, March2015

Hi folks, Had to split this into 3 to match file limits....but they fit together with alittle overlap I think. There are gull-billed terns, pacific golden plovers, at least one little tern (yellow bill) and I suspect whiskered terns though maybe some are little. On the right of the first...
