    Pileated Woodpecker Home?

I have two Pileated Woodpeckers on our farm. I was out looking for their home and came across this large hole and wondered if it could be their home or an old home they had. A smaller hole is below..looks fresh in the making. Wondering more about the above hole.

    Sparrow ID Please, NE OKlahoma

Saw this little one this morning. It is tiny compared to the other sparrows I have. Similar in size to a savannah sparrow but I think a tad smaller. Vivid Reddish head..no spot on breast. Thanks for any help. In the first photo it is beside two white crowned sparrows. Chipping Sparrow?

I get lots of ducks on my pond and the other day I had a variety of ducks and a couple of Geese so I took a few photos to show. I have tons of Gadwalls so I don't take as many pics of them. There are six adult Hooded Mergansers, two pair and two younger mergansers. Two Canadian Geese checking...

    Beaver Dam

Today we found a beaver dam on our property..sigh. Looks to be some pretty large Beavers too from the height of the teeth marks on trees. This is a full blown Dam...the beavers have successfully built it and it holds water which is backing up behind it in a large pool. My husband is all excited...

    Two Pileated Woodpeckers

Well it is official..we have two Pileated Woodpeckers on our farm. We have seen one from time to time but now two together have shown up. I am wondering if they were thinking of starting the Spring is in the air dance. Both Pileateds flew in front of my husbands tractor as he was moving. The...

Critter home..what could live in it? tracks too

I came across this hole in the ground the other day. Whatever it is seems to make a WIDE smooth path where it goes. No signs of beaver since they stay closer to the creek. I took a picture of the hole from distance for size then close up inside. Whatever it is it kicks or throws dirt out quite a...

    Track ID Please

Hi all, well my daughter was out in pasture and thinks she saw the cougar but we can't be sure. She can't see too good at distance. We did search where she saw and where she thought it crossed the creek and came up with this pictured below. As far as I know it could be a dog or anything. Not...

    My birding day..too cool !

My pond has paid off this year with lots of ducks visiting this Winter. We have so much cold weather that our pond is the only one that doesn't freeze over since fed by a natural spring. More ducks are coming daily. I particularly like the Buffleheads and Mergansers, no spotting of a wood duck...

    Duck ID's Please, NE Oklahoma

The first two duck photos were taken on my pond by the house, I have about 30 of these guys on my pond along with Gadwalls. I got lucky this year all the ponds were frozen around the area except ours because of a spring feeding into it so lots of ducks. The other pics were taken down at the dam...

Young or Older Hawk? OKlahoma USA

Hi, I am curious to know if this is an older hawk or younger one. Our pair of Red Tails had an offspring early last Spring on our farm and I was wondering if this is their youngster. How does one tell the difference after they are grown? The Female Mother hawk does not have as much black on...

    Cougars and Bobcats

The cougar is back but doesn't seem to be a threat this go around. It hasn't come up near the house again so that is good. We have taken better precautions like burning all brush near our home and brush hogging brush in pastures. Still lots of groves where one could hide but all is away from the...

    Hawk ID, NE Oklahoma USA

Hi, I think these are Cooper Hawks but not sure. There are two that have arrived on the farm the last week. They seem to spend more time pestering each other then actual hunting. I caught some photos of the two while they were flying overhead harrassing each other once again. I was in the midst...

Thought I would ask and see if anyone else has noticed the Barn swallows not migrating in as usual for the Summer. I usually have tons of the Barn Swallows each year come to our farm but this year none. Instead I have tree swallows which I have never had before in these numbers. I wonder if...

    Pileated Woodpecker, Wilburton, OK..PICS

My family and I went on a camping trip over the weekend to Robbers Cave State Park in Wilburton, Oklahoma. I saw very few birds there, scarce in the woods, pretty disappointing. This all changed when I woke up early on our last day and started for a walk. Not 100 ft from camp I saw my first...

    Spring Time Birding

This Spring has been an exceptionally good one here in Oklahoma. I thought Fall/Winter birding had been great but I have been proven wrong..Spring is for sure the better birding time.
