    Motorcycling and birding

I'm hoping that I'm posting this in the most appropriate place. If not, I'll move it. After a 45 year hiatus (probably stretching the meaning of the word a tad), I am about to buy my second bike. I'm sure other Birdforum members use their bikes to travel to sites, and wonder what they do...

    Tansy? Ragwort?

I’ve been discussing something on another forum and am getting a little confused about something. The discussion was about Common Ragwort. Somebody said that it is known as Tansy in Scotland (or maybe, just a particular part of Scotland) and I have found out that it is sometimes referred to as...

Suggestions for site between Newark and Sheffield

I know this is cutting it a bit fine but could anybody suggest a site I might be able to visit tomorrow where I can kill a couple of hours practicing a bit of photography/digiscoping. Ta Eddie

    Pentax 65ed + canon 710is

Hello all Although all the info I've read suggests that using a camera with anything over a 3x (maybe 4x) zoom is unlikely to work, I've just bought a Canon 710 to use with my 65ed. I think it will be OK once I get use to it (I'm not only new to digiscoping but new to digital compacts too.) The...

    Swifts, Swallows& Martins

Not so much a days birding as a walk in the woods (Holme Fen in Camb's to more precise) with my family and 6 month old Brittany pup. Hardly conducive with birdwatching. Turning a corner we were confronted with a drain (or ditch?) above which was a "swarm" of Swifts, Swallows and House Martins...

52mm to 43mm step down ring

Does anybody know where I could get a 52-43 step down ring in the UK? I've found one in the US but am loath to pay $39 shipping for something which costs $9 Ta Eddie

    Dog fur/hair

Happy Easter All Can anybody tell me if there is any difference between dog hair and dog fur. If so , is either more acceptable (if acceptable at all) to leave out for birds to take for nest material. Eddie

ID for bird in Peterborough UK

Walking at a local nature reserve I noticed what I took to be a young gull at first. On getting home and looking at the photo (attached) I came to the conclusion that it is not a gull after all. Could somebody give me an ID for this bird Ta Eddie

    S/H Sigma 400mm lens

I know this lens has been discussed in previous threads and apologise if anybody feels that this question has been answered in those threads, but feel that I must ask this question as I find all that I've read very confusing when trying to relate that info' to my own situation I am considering a...

    Belated helllo from Peterborough (UK)

Hello I'm not an active birder. In fact I know little about birds but am interested in finding out more about birds and, at 48, experience a very childish joy on seeing and identifying a bird new to me. It's nice to visit a forum, rather than a newsgroup, and find people ready to help rather...
