    Tips for audio recordings

Hello! I am not sure this is the right place to ask my questions. I would like to make audio recordings in the field. I am thinking of capturing the atmosphere of certain places in nature, be it a glade in the woods, on the shore or somewhere in the hills with distant sounds of church bells or...

    New Geovid colours

What do you reckon to these colours? I think the green looks great on the Geovid. The brownish colour is not for me.

Who would actually buy 7x32 Ultravids?

I would. Would you? To be clear: As no such binocular exists, I would think of it having 13mm-15mm eye relief and a FOV of 140/1000m.

What are these spots on the objective lenses?

Hi there, Does anybody know what these spots are on the objective lenses of a pair of ELs? They seem to be in the coating. Cheers

Depth of Field - I am confused

I take it that DOF is mainly determined by magnification and effective exit pupil (e.g. a 6mm exit pupil may be stopped down to 3mm in daylight, the "effective" exit pupil would be 3mm). Thus, two sets of binoculars of the same dimensions (e.g. two 10x42s) should have the same depth of field...

    News from Leica?

After Zeiss having brought a new line of binoculars to the market (SFL) I am wondering once again if Leica have something in the pipeline, too. Does anybody have fresh information? I’d love Leica to give us a 7x32 UV or a Noctivid quality 10x42 in an Ultravid housing.

UV 10x32 HD vs HD PLUS

Has anyone compared the UV 10x32 HD PLUS to the non-plus version side by side? If so, what are your findings? Less CA maybe? Or a plus in brightness? Any real life experience is appreciated.

Do cleaning marks on eyepieces impair the view ?

Do cleaning marks on eyepieces impair the view? Presuming a yes as an answer, I wonder in what ways micro scratches as brought about by using a dry cleaning cloth would affect the view. Sharpness? Contrast? Other ill effects? The effects will be dependent on the extent of the damage, naturally...

    Leica coatings now and then

Inspired Mike's (Mike F) post in another thread (6 January 2022 - New Leica announcement) and much debate about Leica coatings and presumably tacit improvements made by Leica I thought it might be of some interest to show and compare coatings with reference to the respective models and the year...

Which of your binoculars are the most "delicious" ones?

'How can a pair of binoculars possibly be delicious?' is what I thought when I came across this word in one of ZD's thread titles when, in fact, I often think of the specific "taste" of a photographic lens or (the look through) a pair of binoculars. For me, every noise comes with a more or less...

How to carry heavy binoculars in the field and on long hikes

Heavy bins can be a pain on long hikes. I don't mind the neck strap so much when I'm wearing a big coat but I hate heavy bins around my neck in summer. I always carry a rucksack and I just don't fancy a harness under the rucksack. So, I cut a regular neck strap and fitted it with Peak Design...

Edges brighter than the center - why?

Good evening! Here's a good question: Why is it that when I look through my Ultravid 10x32 HD the center appears markedly darker than the edges? I only notice it when I scan the skies for high flying birds. In photographic terms I'd say the center (about 2/3 of the field) is about 1/3 EV darker...

Pre-Swarovision EL - are they still a good buy?

Hi there, I've just put a Victory FL up for sale. Depending on how much money it will fetch I might buy another (maybe pre-owned) binocular. I've been interested in an EL 8,5x42 for a very long time, but when I was ready to buy one new I found Swarovski had introduced their field flattening...

    Black Woodpecker with rusty plumage?

I've just uploaded a photo of a black woodpecker to the gallery. I never knew their plumage was partly rusty. Is that normal? Here's a link to the photo Woodpecker Cheers

    Trinovid 8x42 HD

Hi there, I've been looking around for a pair of 8x42s as I hope, they will give me a better ease of view and better low light qualities than my standard Ultravid HD 10x32. I'd like the 8x42s for use at dusk and dawn and while most people would probably say a pair of 8x42s are bound to give me a...

Different optical designs of the UVs

I’ve been wondering about the different Ultravids for quite a while. Not only about the differences between the HD and the HD+ versions but also about the differences of the optical design of models with different dimensions. My most recent buy (10x42 HD+) shed some light upon this. At the same...

    Hi there!

Hi there! I love spending time outdoors. Watching wild animals is one of my favourite pastimes. I also do a bit of wildlife photography, so I might show some of my photos here. I also have a keen interest in binoculars. Greetings from Germany jafritten
