    Sparrow - Tucson, Arizona

I think this may be Clay-colo(u)red but then again I think it might be a juvenile Chipping. Then again, might be something completely different. Pictures taken two weeks ago. Your thoughts greatly appreciated. Many thanks John

    Tern - Ythan Estuary

I had been looking at my picture of these terns and noticed that the left hand one seems to have a much longer tail and also a sleeker profile when compared with the Arctic Tern. Could it be a Roseate? I don't think they are common at this site. Picture taken last Monday. Your thoughts greatly...

    Lesser Flamingo

Am going to be in the Donana area next weekend and am hoping to see the Lesser Flamingo if still there. According to "Rare birds in Spain" these are at Veta La Palma. I believe this is a commercial concern. Is there public access available? If so, where exactly is Veta La Palma? I know it is in...

    Old Mine Trail

Am going on an independent trip to Jamaica this coming February. Many of the organized tours include the "old mine trail" in their itienraries and it appears that this is a great location for birding. However, I can't find anywhere that tells you exactly where it is - one itinerary mentions that...

    Gull - Bucks

I was at Hedgerley landfill a couple of days ago, distantly photographing the Glaucous Gull that had been around. A few from Morocco

    1. Not sure - feel that ID should be simple 2. Can't decide between Spectacled and Tristram's 3. Sorry for bad picture - think it's either a Peregrine or Lanner's. All taken in desert last week. Your thoughts greatly appreciated. Cheers John

    Air Madagascar

This is just a note for those (primarily) going independently to Madagascar. I've just returned and found that Air Madagascar is the most dis-organized and uncaring organization I've encountered. They are not a member of any trade organization such as IATA and are a law unto themselves. We had...

    Raptor - Madagascar

Am currently in recovery mode on Ile Sainte Marie, off east coast of Madagascar, following guided tour. Saw this (attached) very small (merlin size if not smaller) raptor today that cannot ID - gave my field guide to Guide as a present. Clean white breast and slate grey upper parts. Any...

    A couple from Fuerteventura

Your thoughts greatly appreciated on these. Pic 1. Looks like a Lesser Kestrel to me - pale talons, small round spots - but classified as Accidental in the Canaries Pics 2 & 3. I think might be a Scaup/Tufted hybrid. Curiously there were 2 males and possible female (Pic 3) there. A few Tufties...

    Guineafowl

I found a flock of 7 Helmeted Guineafowl in farmland next to the village of Azemmour (just north of El Jadida) 3 weeks ago. Picture attached - they were a long way away and hence quality poor. Am assuming these are domesticated. Can someone confirm please. Many thanks John

    Black-Hawk Honduras

Hi all, I had thought that this was a Common Black-Hawk but am now undecided. It appears to have dark lores, a feature of Great Black-Hawk. Seen on a lakeside. Excuse picture quality. Was taken long-distance from moving boat. Your thought greatly appreciated. Cheers John

    An alternative to Pico Bonito

Just returned from 2 weeks birding in Honduras. Was a solo trip with a rental car but, despite warnings related to safety, no problems at all - BF member Tom Jenner had given me advice on travelling by myself and heeded all this - many thanks, Tom - was a great adventure. My belief is that...

    Gull - Oxon

I was at Sutton Courtney (Appleford) yesterday viewing the flooded field where that have seen Iceland, Glaucous & poss Kumlien's gulls in last couple of days. The birds were distant and I only had binos (scope is in Austria being repaired - sob) so I tried experimenting with my new Canon x50...

    Chiffchaff call - Herts

I saw chiffchaff today which was duller in colour than the two common chiffchaffs it was associating with. It's call, which I managed to record, is much lower frequency (is that right terminology?) than nominate. Attached is recording which I had to amplify with Audacity. I think this is...
