    emergency birds in flight setup

Hi, I've been out of the camera game for a few years, strictly digiscoping, but I was greatly pained last week not being able to shoot a couple jaegers in flight, that I really wanted. For the moment, I just want to stay pretty cheap. I'm thinking of picking up a 400 f5.6 and some body, both...

    TSN-99A Stay-on Cover

Hey. I got a 99-A used. I've never used an angled scope, but for stars, grandkids, as well as digiscoping I went for it. Still have my 883 anyway. But I was quite disappointed they didn't make an old-style cover that would protect it in the back of the car, etc. So I got an 884 cover and...

TE-11 WZ zoom scraping and clunking

Hi. My eyepiece worked fin for years, until it began scraping and clunking inside when zooming in or out. These are not just heard, but fely as well. I figured it was just wear and tear, expecially because of how much I was putting on and off a PhoneSkope adapter. I sent it in to be fixed...

    7d for telephoto video

Hey, I've been shooting a 7d with the 100-400 for awhile now. I've never tried video, which I will do soon. I'm probaably going to spring for a Mark II soon, but haven't yet. I want the Mark II because 1. - autofucus doesn't work on the Mark I when I have a tele-extender on, and of course...

Updated Trip info NW Ecuador - Itinerary and Guide

Greetings. I previously posted, looking for birding travel companions to NW Ecuador for the middle two weeks of July. At that time I was planning to rent a car and 'just do it'. Since then, I have gotten a talented guide, who has created an amazing detailed itinerary to try to 'clean up' on...

    Binocular discussions on BirdForum

Hi, They must be here, but I'm not finding general binocular discussions. I need new ones. My near dead Bausch & Lomb Elites cost me $850, way back when. Top bins are $3k now. Is it worth it? Or, do you get amazing bins for around a thousand dollars? If I do $1,000, I'll also get a new...

    Mindo lodging

OK, so Yellow House rents beds for $25 including breakfast, cabins for $125 a week! Las Tangaras is $25 a night. Has anyone stayed at these places? How were they? Do they have feeders? Are there other cheap lodging options like this? Thanks

"Budget" two weeks in July - NW and Papallacta

Great threads below. Unfortunately, it appears I will be travelling alone, which makes hiring guides much more difficult money-wise. I'm hoping to be able to hook up with others. I think I especially would like a guide for Papallacta/Antisana, and probably Pululahula for Antipittas. My...

    July 7 - 21, NW Ecuador - Possible birding companion(s) wanted

Hey, I'm stuck with July 7 - 21 dates (might be able to add a day or two if I "must"). I've never been to Ecuador. Will be trying to keep it as cheap as possible, so will camp/do budget lodging when I can, etc., so funds can be spent on guides, etc as needed. But, with other people...

    Tripod/head for digiscoping

Hi This might better be posted here. I just got a Kowa 884 - so straight scope, and plan to do a lot of digiscoping (iPhone and Digidapter - P&S) as well as regular birding with it. I'm struggling to find the right balance between weight of the rig and stability. It is recommended by the...

    Tripod for new digiscoping rig

Hi, I am a birder who really likes taking pictures as well. I do carry my stuff around a fair amount, but weight isn't my top concern, but certainly a consideration. I just bought a Kowa 884 (straight scope) and a digidapter for (presently) a Canon s95. Who knows where it all will lead...

    Nikon V2??

I see lots and lots of use of the V1, but does the Nikon 1 v2 work just as well (or better) for digiscoping? Thanks Curt

Best style of adaptor for switching back and forth?

Hey, just wondering if you find one style of adaptor quickest for switching back and forth, say for flying birds like hawks/gulls where you are scoping, want to peal off a few shots, switch back and refocus, peel off a few more shots. Any thoughts? Thanks, Curt

New 884, or refurbish my TSN-4?

Hello, I have had a Kowa TSN 4 since they came out. My digiscoping has been with my iphone - hand held or with a homemade mount through a 30x wide. I want to improve my setup and have a few bucks, but not unlimited (I am married, ya know) I could fix up my TSN 4 and get a camera, adaptors...
