    Eye Relief Irritations

As some of you know from my earlier post, I've been looking for some decent 10x binoculars in the $300-400 range. I'll post a few thoughts on the original thread when I can, but I am getting more and more irritated by bad ER measurements. The latest issue is a pair of Vixen Foresta CF 10x42...

    Fractional mags

Hi all. Does anyone know the thinking behind fractional magnifications? Looking at some 10.5x42 and 10.5x50, they look on paper to give up more FOV (compared to 10x) than I would expect. They also seem to be more expensive compared to "regular" 10x than I would expect (same for 8x vs 8.5x)...

    McKinley 10x42 HD question

Do any on you eyeglass wearers know how far the McKinley 10x42 will overfocus? Anyone out there with more than a -5 diopter that has used them without their glasses, and been able to focus at (or past) infinity? Thanks!

    WP PC 10x50

Has anyone used the Discovery 10x50? The listed 22mm eye relief made me curious.

    Best 10x at $300-$500

Best 10x at $300-$500 (or there about) Hi all. Now that I'm acclimated a bit more to my 7x Hawthornes, I'm thinking about a new 10x. The Hawthornes are a great optic, and I love the relaxed, relatively wide view (great for scanning tree lines. through brush, etc), but looking farther out...

Nikon SE Hard Use / Water Exposure

Hi all. I've tried to search BF for this, but since "SE" is too short for the search engine it's been a pain. Have any of you used your SEs for prolonged periods in rough and wet environments? I understand they won't take a dunking, but what about splashes, rain and long exposure to high...

    Price point "sweet spot"?

While Frank's post on "near alpha" binoculars is generating interesting discussion, including what constitutes an "alpha binocular", I would like to ask for a little clarification of a different sort. At what price point can you get close enough on all or most attributes to say a pair of...

    ZRS HD Question

A couple of the posts below have me wondering how different my 2 1/2 yr. old Summit HD 10x42s are from the current version. From what I can tell it's only the prism coating? (mine are silver-coated). Here's the current features overview: "The newest ZRS HD features feather-light weight Mg...

    Kowa YF 6x30 and Yosemite

This follows the YF post below by more than a year, but I recently had both the new (V. 2) Yosemites and YF 6xs together (still do, in fact) and was able to compare a bit, and thought this might help someone looking at both binoculars. I bought both thinking I'd keep the best pair as a gift for...

    ZR Customer Service

I just wanted to share a positive experience regarding ZR CS. After a couple of years of use, my Summits had gotten loose in the main hinge and the focusing ring. I returned them to ZR and now they're back in shape. They may even be a little better than when new as I asked ZR to check and...

    Hello from Utah

Hi everyone. I am a former member but lost all my login info. When I can, I get up in the Wasatch mountains and take iBird with me on my phone. Other than that it's mostly backyard watching (which isn't bad here in the winter, with feeders out).
