    Swarovski service, again

The SLC 8X42 I purchased in 17th of February was sadly lacking the pair of lens overs. The (local) shop promised to get them, but failed to deliver. Having waited two weeks I called them and was told they had ordered but not got them yet, they would contact Swarovski again. After another week...

BITFEOV for my new SLC 8x42

For me, binocular needs to have way big eyecups to avoid kidney beans and get a decent ease-of-view. (This is one reason why I like my Kowa Genesis 8x43 as it is and had to beef up the eyecups on my El 8x32 with the winged ones.) For the new SLC 8x42 I have yet to acquire a set, so in the...

    Eyepieces MeoStar B1 and B1.1 8x32

Hello, I have a question concerning the eyepieces of the newer MeoStar B1.1 8x32. Maybe someone out there can help me. Several years ago I used and liked the old one quite a lot. Unfortunately, the eyepieces had a way to small diameter to fit to my face. About 32-33mm , If I remember correctly...

    Which bird is it?

Hello folks, I need your help in answering a (difficult for me) question about a bird. I try to translate the given informations as good as possible. In the year 1971 (give or take) scientists discovered for the first time the breeding site/nest of this bird. Location was the oldest island in...

Traveller BGa Mg 6x32 now a bargain at € 185,-

Traveller BGA Mg 6x32 now a bargain at € 185,- I regularly browse my older articles to check whether the links are still working. With my 2013 review of several bins from Opticron I was in for a pleasant surprise. Opticron is now listed as a "new seller" with amazon germany. Offering the BGA Mg...

Fighting reflexions in a Habicht 8x30

This I found in a german bino forum, have a look at the attatched pictures: http://www.juelich-bonn.com/jForum/read.php?9,427712,427745#msg-427745 Rubber sun shades for rifle scopes at the lenses. Rubber eyeshades with wings at the eyepieces. Maybe worth a try. I have ordered a set of sun shades...

    Expriencing the Papilio II 6.5x21

Experiencing the Papilio II 6.5x21 For several weeks I had the use of a Papilio II. Pentax graciously decided to send me one for a review and, naturally, I choose the 6.5x. Less wobble/swaying at closer distances, bigger FOV and DOF, an easy decision. So all my comments only apply to this...

How old is this 7x20 CF III?

For the purpose of comparison with a Pentax Papilio II 6,5x21 I dug out my old reverse-porro compact Nikon 7x20 CF III, serial-no. 540643. I think I bought it maybe at the beginning of the 90s, but am not sure. Who can shed a light, please?

    A Monarch 7 8x30 for a couple of days

A friend of mine wanted to buy a new bino as a present for her husband. Intended for hiking, canoeing and bicyclng it had to be small enough without being a compact. I helped her decide on a Nikon Monarch 7 8x30, which was available for € 252,- delivered. It arrived at my doorstep, so the hubbie...

    I recieved a Minox BL 8x33 HD

Minox sent me their BL 8x33 HD to have a look at. Since Minox does present the BL-binos as "made in germany",I thought it could be useful to begin this thread by explaining what they mean with "made in germany". This is what Minox claims on their german website...

    Bins without veiling glare

Here we go;) The Minox Bl 8x33 HD. The very best I ever handled in terms of veiling glare. In one situation - the low sun directly outside/above the FOV - this bin even beat the Habicht 8x30 in showing details. Simply by not showing veiling glare.

    Unboxing the Habicht 8x30

Unboxing the Habicht 8x30 W Today I received a parcel from Swarovski containing, upon some other stuff, a Habicht 8x30 W for a review. My intention is to evaluate a -rather small and lightweight -but high-class binocular, -well below the € 1000,- threshold, -for hiking and general outdoor...

Finally, my EL 8x32 SV is as good as my Genesis 8x33

The whole package, that is. Optically, these two were so close, each with a distinct profile, that it came down to ergonomics in deciding which one to use. With customized ergonomics, the Swaro now can compete with the Kowa. For a bin to be perfect, it needs HUGE eyepieces, otherwise it wont be...

The fast car kills the bird

Interesting to read. Above a speed of 120 km/h (=74.56 mph), a bird can no longer evade an aproaching car: http://rspb.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/282/1801/20142188

Kowa Genesis 8x33, ightening the central hinge

The one thing which bothers me is the a-smidgen-too-loose hinge on my Kowa. I dont want to send it in, as another user from germany reported that Kowa will charge € 35,- to correct it. This plus postage two ways is too expensive for me right now. Is there a way for a DIY? I removed the cap from...

    Kite Lynx HD 8x30 arrived

Kite Lynx HD 8x30 Kite Optics was so generous to send me this bino for a review. It arrived yesterday and so I cant comment on optics yet, a couple of pictures - to show how small it is - will have to do for now. Ok, a small hint, I am already counting my pennies.....;)

    Minolta Standard EZ 7x35

Minolta Standard EZ 7x35 Wide Angle 9.5° I wanted a cheap bino as a carry-and-throw-around for on tour with bicycle or scooter. Having a look at ebay I found a Minolta Standard EZ 7x35 and got it for € 32,- delivered. More compact than the Nikon Action 7x35 and with 650gr not too heavy...
