Nikon 8x30 EII - Strange Issue Inside Lens? (1 Viewer)

That's the problem with unsealed binoculars like the Nikon EII 8x30. When you focus them they suck dust inside like an accordion and the dust carries fungus spores. If they sit in the dark for a period of time in a humid climate like Japan, pretty soon fungus will grow.

You need to keep an EII in a desiccant box to keep the moisture from getting inside. I wouldn't recommend an EII or for that matter any unsealed binocular in a very humid climate. Even if you live in a dry climate like Arizona, the EII needs to be periodically taken apart and cleaned because dust accumulates inside.

Doesn't affect the view whatsoever but its on both sides in 2 similar spots.
TBH I would be tempted to just use them unless and until some issue happens, especially if I got them for as low a price as the OP hints he did (what was that exactly? 😇). I have never shone a flashlight into my binoculars, nor really felt the need to. I've had secondhand binoculars which needed cleaning due to haze or fungus, but those issues were apparent when I looked through them "the right way".

That said, everyone is entitled to have his/her own individual requirements, and to set their standards as high as they please. I agree that (as one of the regulars says in his signature) "a determined search for flaws always finds at least one" - it's just that not all flaws actually affect "the view".
