Would you personally tick, given a highly unlikely alternative ID?

Where I live, the Long-billed Dowitcher is fairly common during migration. On rare instances, an experienced birder may spot a Short-billed Dowitcher among the flock. I put down Long-billed on every report unless I happen to be standing with someone I recognize who positively identifies a...

How many cuckoos have you seen?

Just three, but I haven't birded outside of the U.S. yet. Groove-billed Ani Greater Roadrunner Yellow-billed Cuckoo

Glaucous Gull at Lake Mead in southern Nevada. This is usually a bit south and inland for this species. https://ebird.org/checklist/S156037397

Appreciate Your Birding Insights for an eBird Project

At home, I keep an eye on the recent sightings and rare bird alerts. If I just want to go out and there's nothing to twtich, I hit one of my favorite local hotspots. Away from home, I use the targets feature on eBird, which really could use some fleshing out to make the species map view show...

Henderson Nevada Cornerstone park area Sapsucker?

I have seen Ladder-backed Woodpeckers within a mile of Cornerstone Park on numerous occasions (including at Pittman Wash, the hotspot Bewick linked to) although I haven't seen one at the park itself.

You're welcome. Also, I forgot to mention a bit about that. There had been talks about building more homes there since at least 2016, but the construction only started around 2021. While I'm sure the area around it will be a bit more active, there's little worry of the Bird Preserve itself...

Most misidentified birds in your area

There's a regularly occurring AFCD at a local hotspot that I've seen identified as an EUCD in photos a few times, but EUCD is plentiful there. That individual was controversial before eBird's exotics update last year.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

Over the weekend, I snagged a Greater Pewee, Ferruginous Hawk, and Long-tailed Duck in my home county. Here's the Greater Pewee:

As a local from the Las Vegas Valley who has been to most of the places in your report, this was a fascinating read. It's great to see folks from all around the world enjoying gems like the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and Corn Creek. You were also very lucky on your timing, as many of the...

    Hello from Nevada, USA

Hello, everyone! I'm an amateur birdwatcher and photographer from Henderson, Nevada, in the United States. While I've been taking photos for years, I only started to take a strong interest in birdwatching three years ago. I've been to a fair number of states and birded in 11 of them, but I...
