    Oenanthe sp. from Romania

Ok, since every knowledgeable birder says it looks like an isabelline that`s gotta be good enough for me then! I`m keeping it. Thanks again!

    Oenanthe sp. from Romania

There are plenty of souslik holes on that hill (suporting Blotched and Caspain Whip Snakes populations and atracting lots and lots of rare raptors BTW). The base is full of them and i remember that the ravine guarded by the bird had a quite a few visibile entrances. They become scarcer the...

    Oenanthe sp. from Romania

Thank you for your fast replies. The picture was taken last year in Dobroudja (Deniztepe Hill). http://wikimapia.org/#lang=ro&lat=45.000981&lon=28.693199&z=13&m=b The habitat was something like secondary steppe, bouldery hill base, with plenty of O. oenanthe and a couple of O. pleshanka...

A few shots from the steppes

Cool, we also stopped by Padurea Domneasca and saw a Booted Eagle and a Honey Buzzard. I presume that you saw the rare Long-legged Buzzard and not a Long-tailed Buzzard.;)

Thank you very much for your answer John. I`ll write it down as Apodemus flavicolis then and move on with my life. :) Vlad

    Moldavian mistery mouse

I found this unidentified rodent while snakehunting in the southern region of the Republic of Moldavia, ex USSR (http://wikimapia.org/#lang=ro&lat=45.948763&lon=28.494759&z=7&m=m) and at first i thought it was an Apodemus sylvaticus, but considering that A. flavicolis also ocurrs there, not to...

A few shots from the steppes

Last weekend i had to attend a wedding in the capital city of Chisinau, but after that it was just birding and herping in the Prut and Raut valleys. And like allways, we also checked the lakes arround Comrat and Cimislia. Managed to only photograph only a handfull of birds, but if you are...

    Birding sites in Moldova?

I go to Moldova a few times a year, except the hard winter, as my in laws live there. We bird a lot around the town of Cimislia, 40 km north of Comrat Lake. The ponds around this small town may not seem like much but when they start to dry out in late summer, they become real migrant traps...

    Birding sites in Moldova?

Don`t forget Lake Comrat, and the swamps south of the dam. Breeding Bluethroats, sometimes Sakers hunting the spotted sousliks, and many, many more. It is my favourite birding place in Moldova. Autumn is the best season, but every visit there delivers something great...
