    Thanks. I cannot take credit for spotting this bird- always cryptic, elusive and highly sought after in SE Arizona. A participant on a tour I was guiding on found it first, and then it remained motionless for about 5 minutes!

    Male Montezuma Quail "freezing" by a roadside. Usually their coloration makes them almost invisible when they do this- and the female was completely hidden until they moved.

    This Pale-billed Woodpecker was working on a nest in Carara National Park. One of the biggest woodpeckers, I've seen them in west Mexico and Costa Rica.
