    Bobolink-like birds in upper Austria

    Certainly, to an extent!

    Bobolink-like birds in upper Austria

Hmm, thanks for the suggestions. I think this one will remain a mystery. I think it more likely that I mis-saw the coloration than the giss (I don't think I would mistake any of the suggestions' giss/flight pattern for that of a Red-winged Blackbird), so it's probably hopeless. Thanks for the...

    Bobolink-like birds in upper Austria

Hello, I was recently in Austria and noted two birds from a train window. They were black, but I noticed what appeared to be a pale patch on the head similar to a Bobolink from the US. They were similar in size, giss, and behavior to Red-winged Blackbirds from the US. They were flapping around...

    Kettle in southern Germany

Hello, I was recently riding a bus in southern Germany near Salzburg, Austria and observed a kettle of about a dozen large birds high in the sky near a mountain. It reminded me of Turkey Vultures back home in the US and I'm wondering what species this might have been in Germany. It looked...

    Mystery bird outside Munich, Germany

@Richard Prior thank you, that is an excellent match on all fronts! @nartreb I'm not sure, but the giss was wrong for a sandpiper.

    Mystery bird outside Munich, Germany

Hello, I was riding in a train outside Munich and noted a bird flying away from me low over a field. Size was around a blackbird, maybe a little bigger. Shape reminded me of a Northern Mockingbird. It looked grayish and had an obvious white patch on each wing and white in the tail. Very brief...

Siskin or Serin in Salzburg, Austria?

Hello, I observed a couple of these birds twittering vigorously and fluttering around each other in a courtyard in downtown Salzburg. Unfortunately I only captured the very end of the observation with this poor video. Is it IDable? Thanks! TK

    Odd goose in Germany

Hello, I was recently traveling in Germany and observed this goose at the English Garden in Munich. Clearly it has Bar-headed Goose genes, but I'm wondering what else might be involved. Partly domestic or a hybrid? Thanks for any thoughts! TK

Tufted Titmouse w/ orange throat, Massachusetts, USA

Great question! Yes, if anything it was more noticeable in real life than in the photos. The orange belly and throat jumped out to me with the naked eye at a distance of about 25m (80ft), after which I watched it with binoculars for a bit as it moved around. Roughly comparable in saturation...

Tufted Titmouse w/ orange throat, Massachusetts, USA

Naturally. But rather than leaving it at that, I personally prefer to seek possible explanations, lest there be any, in hopes of learning something about the origins of said aberrations.

Tufted Titmouse w/ orange throat, Massachusetts, USA

I agree that is the most plausible explanation, although I'd say an understatement! To have a normally small and well-defined flank patch spread over the entire underside of the bird is a dramatic difference. I wonder if diet impacts the extent of orange on TUTIs.

Tufted Titmouse w/ orange throat, Massachusetts, USA

Any thoughts on this orange-throated and orange-washed titmouse? I've seen thousands of titmice and never seen one like this, nor can I find any documentation of others. Thank you! -TKbird
