    Winter bird counts

This report might interest you as well: https://www.sovon.nl/nl/publicaties/watervogels-nederland-20172018-0 It's in Dutch, but the captions of tables and figures are in English as well, and it gives you detailed information for waterbird counts in 2017-2018.

    Winter bird counts

Sovon.nl is the place to go. https://www.sovon.nl/en/content/vogelsoorten gives you the population sizes (including Ramsar up to 2015), but the language switches back to Dutch again and again.. Hope it isn't a big issue for you.

    Nutcracker location Wageningen

30-60 minutes may be short, but I reckon it should be time enough, although it can hide for some time in the gardens. I am away on Thursday afternoon, otherwise I would have helped you look for it. But in the meantime, you can keep a close eye on www.waarneming.nl for sightings. Here you can...

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

Hi all, It's been a while, and I surely have to catch up. I've just added a couple of species to Arjan's list by speeding up the IOC updates. This should have yielded him 2 Pitta's (Sulawesi Pitta and Papuan Pitta) and one Cuckoo-Dove (Sultan's Cuckoo-Dove). Do note that Red-bellied Pitta (E...

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

Minor addition: the rarities of Observation.org are quite ok, but of course some dispute exists locally. However, most of the rarities of WORLD.observation.org are based on the situation in the Netherlands. This is a database issue because the waarneming.nl and observation.org database are...

    One day around Schiphol

Hi Stuart, There are enough opportunities in the neighbourhood. Depending on your wishlist or which activity you want to do most (forest birding, water birds, photography, twitching, all-nature-experience et cetera), we can perhaps help you. Would you have a car, or in what distance from the...

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

Today he had 168 species at Lake Nakuru! (First hand in a Whatsapp-group) Yes, it is a shame he enters no full lists.

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

Stay tuned for the update on the list (10 minutes). Desert Owl is entered under embargo, so it might not show up in the list.

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

My remark wasn't supposed to 'unleash the beasts', but great that we now know more of both databases. And great that more precise locations is given more emphasis now in eBird. For Observation.org we should put more emphasis on complete lists (and protection). On a more on-topic note: Arjan now...

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

I suppose he'll enter both subspecies. He is rather informed about potential splits, so he knows when to enter potential additions. Can imagine that the full lists really is a tiring job, because observation.org focuses a bit more on loose observations with more detailed location information...

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

Many thanks for the clarification. We'll leave it as it is. Arjan did great in PNG! Off to Australia and then a couple of days back home. With all honesty, I think it's quite ok for the list. Though he should target the harder species, not the Chiffchaffs.

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt

I would like to ask for your help. The swamphens in the Philippines, where is it Philippine (Porphyrio pulverulentus) and where is it Black-backed (P indicus). IOC says Philippine in the Philippines, but it says Black-backed for south Philippines. If Mindanao counts as south Philippines (I...

2016 - World Yearlist Record Attempt
