    Lockdown Bees - Wolverhampton

Thinking now after a bit more research and some help via Twitter that 1 and 2 on initial post are Buffish Mining Bee and 4 is maybe a male Orange-tailed Mining. Lathbury's Nomad has been confirmed for for my 2nd post, so happy I got that right at least!

    Lockdown Bees - Wolverhampton

Also saw a few of these Nomad Bees - the two yellow dots with the bright reddish orange upper segment of the abdomen made me think Lathbury's Nomad Bee potentially?

    Lockdown Bees - Wolverhampton

Having a go at photgraphing / identifying a few garden bees, especially during lockdown. I did some of the easier species but these are a bit more tricky (for me anyway!). Any help much appreciated 1 & 2) Maybe male Tawny Mining Bee? 3) Orange-tailed Mining Bee? 4) ? but the smallest one...

    Garden Bees - Wolverhampton

Excellent, Thank you. Yes not great shots of 2+3 will try for better. Lots of the Leafcutters in my garden bee house, so could get shots at different angle if any external features can ID to species? Cheers Ian

    The Hoverfly Thread

Excellent, thank you! I’d identified 3. as inanis based on underside view, so don’t know why I put the other! Yes 4 & 5 same individual. I’d ruled out albimanus as body had yellow as opposed to grey markings but photo doesn’t show it well. Can they also have yellow? I saw a few presumed...

    Garden Bees - Wolverhampton

Trying again to get started on ID of bees in my garden and got a few (not so great) photos from the weekend that I can't put a definite name to. Any help much appreciated. 1+2: Leafcutter Bee sp. - maybe Wood-carving or Willughby's? 2+3: Mining Bee sp.? 5: Common Carder Bee?

    The Hoverfly Thread

Very new to Hoverflies, so be gentle with me, and any advice much appreciated. Caught a few recently in my garden and my best guesses are: 1+2: Eristalis tenax? 3: Volucella zonaria 4+5: Platycheirus scutatus?

    2017 UK orchids

Thanks Rog - yep it was Dyffryn in the dunes between caravan site & the beach, assume this is a regular site for Nothern Marsh then? They all looked pretty similar in colour / shape there, sounds like a bit of a nightmare at Ynyslas though!

    2017 UK orchids

Could anyone confirm the ID of this Orchid please? Photograph taken in dunes near Barmouth, Gwynedd last week. I'm presuming one of the Marsh Orchids but not sure which. Many thanks

    Insects in a Wolverhampton garden

Thanks Ficedula - Haha, yes bee was about as close as I'd got with the tiny black one too! Is this photo any better for clinching Andrena nigroaenea for the one?
