Birds ID help is needed from Uganda - Part I

Thank you Tom, Andy and The_FERN for your help and ID comments. The 4th picture does look tricky enough, especially since it’s taken from a great distance and lacks many details. Black or Black-winged Bishop, I’m fine leaving it unidentified.

Birds ID help is needed from Uganda - Part III (... and last :) )

Thank you all for your great help and comments. I would never think that the first picture would be White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, especially since it’s not pictured in the guide. Thank you for pointing that out Alino.

Birds ID help is needed from Uganda - Part III (... and last :) )

Hello, Last part of the Bird ID thread From Uganda, June 2017. 9. Taken in Bwindi, Buhoma area, near the gate. It could be a Cassin’s Grey Flycatcher, but then it wasn’t photographed near water. Could also be Dusky-blue Fly. 10 Taken in Lake Mburo NP. Looks like a female Cuckoo-shrike, but...

Birds ID help is needed from Uganda - Part I

Hello, My wife and I did a trip to Uganda during June 2017. This wasn’t a birding trip but rather general safari trip. However, since we are both amateur birdwatchers we did some birding here and there. Most of the birds we could identify but we need some help with the following. Some of the...

    Recommended birding guides.

I Just wanted to give an update since we returned from Uganda two days ago. For Budongo we did called Raymond and arranged a tour and it was amazing. Raymond is highly experience birder, very knowledgeable and an excellent guide. He knows many bird sounds and can imitate them, but he also has...

    Recommended birding guides.

Hi dacol, Thank you for the valuable advices and tips. I saw another recommendation about Raymond as an expert bird guide to the Budongo so I’ll try the contact him as soon as we land in Uganda. We also plan to overnight in Masindi and in the morning drive to Budongo. I wasn’t aware that the...

    Recommended birding guides.

Hi dwatsonbirder, Thanks you for your answer. I tried to contact several companies: (*) birduganda.com didn’t answer my emails (I sent three). (*) birdinginuganda.com did answer my first email, with suggested guide for the royal mile but also suggested that we will hire a driver for the entire...

    Recommended birding guides.

Hello, My wife and I are planning a self-driving trip to Uganda in this coming July. This is not specifically a birding trip, but we do plan to do some birding along the way. However we do want to hire a local birding guide in two specific locations: One in the Budongo Forest Reserve and...

    Greater or Lesser Black-Winged Lapwing

Thank you Sal and Niels for your comments. Niels, In the Black-winged Lapwing photo you linked, the amount of white in the forehead is indeed more extensive than on “our” bird. And I just realized that I uploaded this photo: http://www.birdforum.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=36860 I...

    Greater or Lesser Black-Winged Lapwing

Hello all, We need some help with this plover identification. The two photos were taken in Mkhuze Game Reserve during our trip to SA in the past September. Our impression is towards Lesser black-winged (Senegal) lapwing. It looks slender, the white in the forehead is not too extensive and the...

Ndumo Game Reserve – Current Status?

Thanks safariranger, This is very encouraging. Unfortunately we are not planning to rent a 4x4 so we will have to skip Tembe Elephant Park. We do however plan to visit Mkhuze GR. I do hope that a solution will be found in Ndumo, that will be satisfied for both the animals and the local...

Ndumo Game Reserve – Current Status?

Hello, We are planning a trip to SA next year. We will spend a few days in Kruger NP and then head south to the KwaZulu-Natal province to do some birding. At the moment we plan to Visit Ndumo GR, Mkhuze GR and St. Lucia (if time will be sufficient). I know that in Ndumo there were conflicts...

Camera for Kowa TSN-827 32X wide angle

I use the Canon 570IS with my Kowa 821 and get very decent results with it, although layers of regular glass rather then HD cause the pictures to look kind of grainy. I use the Kowa DA-1 Adapter to attach the camera to the scope. If I were you I would consider buying the 570IS rather then the...

    Help! - UK wader

Hmm, in the last two pictures there is a hint of red legs? And the bill seems long, narrow and curved at it's end. It's hard to tell from the pictures but my guess will be Spotted Redshank in a winter plumage.
