    Rooks And Crows

Hi all, we love to feed our wild birds all year round but have found it increasingly difficult to keep the larger birds away from the feeding tables. We have a medium sized garden with two large bird feeders but we have no tree cover to prevent the rooks and crows from coming in. Very...

    Henry

Didn't realise birds moulted this late in the year so hopefully it may be just that. Don't suppose other birds would peck at its head?? Anyway thanks for advice

    Henry

Hi all, we've been visited for the last year by a beautiful black and white bird which we think is maybe a feral/homing/racing pigeon. (we've named Henry). However, this last week we noticed that he looks as if he's been attacked as there are no feathers on his head - looks a bit like a turkey...

    House Martins

Thanks Delia. Another question - I'm full of them today! This year there seem to be far too many birds flying into windows. So far I've had 6 or 7 which have survived (mainly sparrows) but a large number which haven't. This morning was especially upsetting. Every morning I put out grapes...

    House Martins

I have a question about house martins. I always believed they didn't ever land but ate etc constantly in flight (except when nesting). This morning I couldn't believe it - there were two babies sitting on our fence. Is this normal behaviour or maybe someone knocked down a nest before it was empty.

In a quandary with aggressive birds

Hi all, can anyone give me some advice on my problem please? When we moved to our present location in Ireland we had loads of blue tits, great tits and sparrows - house and tree. We very occasionally saw some goldfinches, greenfinches, bullfinches and the odd starling. This year we find we're...

    Strange behaviour of blackbirds

Hi Sancho, Many thanks for your help with this. It was driving me nuts watching them each year and not knowing what was going on. You'd think that they would actually come to blows and not just dance around each other - fascinating. By the way it's always exactly the same area. As far as Robins...

    Strange behaviour of blackbirds

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this forum so please bear with me if I get stuff wrong. I have a burning question regarding blackbirds. We regularly have two male blackbirds in our garden who take to chasing each other round. They never fight or make contact, but as soon as they are near each...
