Visiting UK in June End/Early July - Looking to photograph the Mandarin Duck

You will not find any male Mandarin Ducks in spectacular plumage in late June and July - they moult into a female type plumage for the summer, only really distinguishable by their reddish bills. I would concentrate on enjoying the Farnes and Bempton Cliffs.

    May Moths

I am really struggling so far this month. May is never brilliant in urban gardens but in eight attempts so far I have only had 53 moths. The Alder Moth and three single Silver Ys the best.

Yellow Wagtail type - North Sea

First-summer Grey-headed I think often show a bit of a supercilium, and maybe the white on the throat could be another sign of immaturity.

Brown Booby may get split - an issue for British listers?

An excellent analysis of their separation in the current issue of British Birds, suggesting most will be 'doable'.

North East India - Eaglenest, Kaziranga, Nameri, Dirang

A classic itinerary, and you have gone for the top ground agent. I did it one very cold and snowy February a long time ago and would love to do it again if my legs were still up to it.

    New Spurn bus service (71E)

Back in the 70s the C&G bus ran daily. The Red-footed Falcon I found along the peninsula in 1973 (!!) was part of a C&G day trip.

Don't forget BirdingPal - some very helpful people on there, all over the world.
