    Dismantling Ross Stepruva 9x35

Hi, Anyone knows how to extract the front prism for cleaning in Ross Stepruva binos? Best Regards, Andy

    Ross Solaross 12x40 build quality

OK, I figured out how to do it. There's a nut under the focus ring. But it's only doable at the cost of stiffer focus. Ross released this model to compete with cheaper Japanese bonos but those Japanese binos had higher build quality than these Rosses. The Rosses are pretty decent optically.

    Ross Solaross 12x40 build quality

Hi, So I have a pair of Solaross 12x40 in like new condition. I understand they are budget model by Ross but the quality of build is really shoddy. The yoke on which the oculars sit is too wobbly. When I adjust focus in, the yoke tilts one direction, when I adjust the focus out, the yoke moves...

    Dismantling Nikon Action 10x50

Hi, Having cleaned a few 1970's and 1960's binos I got this modern pair of Nikon Action 10x50 all in rubber and plastic. I started known procedure and surprise, no screw inside! I went to the other side, a familiar screw but, didn't budge Then to the objective to unscrew the front lens...

    lubricating stiff focus

Great, thanks. I lubricated photo lenses before so I have greases- PTFE and Japanese white grease, many grades of viscosity. With binoculars there's not that much need to care as the grease won't get on glass or on aperture ring so I use on both parts, in photo lenses only on one part. So far I...

    lubricating stiff focus

They're old binos from the 1960's and 1970's, Yashica and Pentax, not worth sending anywhere. I already cleaned some of them inside of fungus and mould.

    lubricating stiff focus

Hi, So I have some Japanese binos with very stiff focus. What's the remedy? Rinse everything with naphtha or alcohol or maybe "goo gone"? Then put on new grease? Not easy to do. Or maybe put some silicone oil on the old grease or something else to thin it? But what exactly? Would be...

    Soviet BPC 12x40 from 1970's

OK. I had to turn both rings but aligned it quite easily. A lot of goo on those rings. Also one ring was kept in place with some metal folded on it. Scratched one glass a bit, but done.

    Soviet BPC 12x40 from 1970's

Hi, I bought the second pair of the Soviet BPC 12x40 from the 1970's and both had double vision. I already sent back one. My question is, do they easily get out of alignment or is it coincidence? Are they very difficult to collimate? They are small bios without barrels to turn. Thanks, Andy

Binoculars with different coatings on either objective

HI, So I bought those Soviet BPC Tento 10x50 from 1989. Strangely thay have 2 different objectives. One is coated purple/violet and the other one amber/yellow. Do you think it's on purpose? They work well. I always see these Tento and other Soviet binos with purple glasses.

    Collimating 1960's/1970's Asahi Pentax binos

I have bought "Porro Prism Binoculars Overhaul" and "A Concise Guide to Collimating and Restoring Vintage Binoculars", both by Alberto Roberts. You meant this author?

    Collimating 1960's/1970's Asahi Pentax binos

Yeah, you're probably right. There is no much wriggling space though for the prisms. They just fall into place, a plastic niche and are clamped down with springy metal straps.

    Collimating 1960's/1970's Asahi Pentax binos

Hi, So I have a few pairs now of those Asahi Pentax binoculars with yellow or gold tinted oculars. I had to clean 2 pairs inside. When you fit in the prisms they kind of fall into place, there's no options how to put them back. Then you brace them up with a piece of metal. Having put together...
