Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Ah, if he was there legally, then perhaps “eejit” was uncalled for. The individual I saw was clearly visible out in the open, causing the birds to lift en mass, so hopefully not the same person that was there to document the sad situation. Thanks for clarification. Sp70

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Hi Burnie, Managed to get a wee shot of him with the phone thru the scope when we were up there on Friday. What a bird! Some superb views of terns fishing from the shore too. Sadly, there was an eejit in a hi-viz on the north side of the estuary who kept putting the terns up. We have...

Rough and dirty Hawke 8x42 APO review

Hi Ratal, Thanks for an excellent review. Would love to try a pair out someday. I have Hawke Sapphire ED 10 x 42 and had the same issue with the rainguard. A suitable replacement was hard to find, but I eventually found the Opticron 45.5mm BGA Rainguard fits perfectly. Hopefully it will fit...

    Scotland in late august

Hi jpoyner, Apologies for my error and thank you for acknowledging my desire to be helpful. These are routes I have enjoyed based on information found in Gordon Hamlett's book, Best Birdwatching Sites in the Scottish Highlands, where likely species are named. I have perhaps wrongly assumed...

    Scotland in late august

Hi Owene, I'm often up there late August and there are plenty of Scottish specialities to look out for. If heading to Nethy Bridge from Glen Loy, be sure to make the most of it by taking the scenic route via Fort Augustus, then along the east side of Loch Ness up the B862. Lots of good stops...

    Seafield to Kinghorn

Hi Tom, Welcome to Fife. Only place I've seen crossbills in Fife was in Devilla Forest, which is just in Fife. Only on one occasion though. I understand they have been seen in Blairadam Forest near Kelty too. Always a treat to see them. JSP

    Montrose Basin..,..Thoughts & Observations ??

Hi Stonefaction, That's really helpful - thank for taking the time to dig that out for me. Makes my sighting more probable than possible! I have just began recording my daily walks on eBird but I don't really know my way around it yet. It looks like a great source of localised information...

    Montrose Basin..,..Thoughts & Observations ??

Hi Stonefaction, Enjoyed looking through your list of birds etc at Montrose Basin. We visit two or three times a year from Fife and can add that I've seen a MINK at The Lurgies car park this past autumn. (29th or 30th September - can't remember which) I reported this to someone from Scottish...

    Swarovski at80hd for digiscoping?

Hi Joker, I have an AT80HD scope and occasionally use it to digiscipope using the Viking Phone adaptor https://www.birders-store.co.uk/viking-smart-phone-adapter.html I have the original 20-60x zoom and the newer 30x SW eyepieces with it. The 30x eyepiece gives a terrific birdwatching...

    Seafield to Kinghorn

Hi Gander, Have enjoyed your posts. I pop over to Kirkcaldy every once in a while from West Fife to have a nosey around the sea front. A nice stretch of coast! If you are listing this year, you may be interested to know I found an adult Med Gull today amongst the BHGs just off the sea wall at...

    Eyepiece Reviews?

Thanks for the heads-up re: using the 25-50 on the AT80. At the moment, it’s a “funds permitting” issue! I’m used to the wide angle on my old setup and not used to the narrower f.o.v yet. Loving the upgrade at the moment, however, so happy to enjoy it as is. Thanks for all the helpful...

    Eyepiece Reviews?

Hi Peter, Thanks for your reply. I think this will eventually be the setup I settle on, or something similar. I am finding that when I push the zoom to it's limit the image is a bit on the dim side for comfortable continued viewing, but when I pull it back to around 30 - 40x it is much more...
