    Tree sparrows at Worfield bog

Anyone know if still around. Been a few years since last visited and saw several around the farm. Went last week or so and none, just house sparrows. Also the bog is just a tiny puddle through lack of rain. May be up a little since though.

    Mixed news

That's excellent Mike. My smooth newt count (day) is up to 9 today so really pleased with that. No common frog or common toad though to date.

As John says, you're in the right place. But as nothing is guaranteed in birding, even more so with lsw. They are there though and usually by determination and a lot of luck I end up at least 1 sighting a year. Not often more than that though :)

    Birding in an urban area

I enjoy urban birding, even when not out with bins still alert. last year while waiting at traffic lights in Dudley (West Midlands) I saw a goshawk in flight. I'm a season ticket holder at Wolves and very often have an eye on the gulls that are often seen in flight or hang around the area. In...

    Dogs

I find it amazing that many take little black bags with them, take the time to collect the mess, tie the bag neatly. And then chuck it in the bushes. But it's not the dog's fault, it's the owner. And yes i am the owner of a dog, a Bedlington.

    Mixed news

Last year saw my garden common frogs making a bit of a recovery. Unfortunately the half a dozen dead ones I fished out the pond a month ago seems to have wiped them put. The harshest weather for a century. But I have already had smooth newts, last year had to wait until April 8 to see my first...

First chiffchaff of the year on the same day as 2010 - March 24. On a different note it seems the common frogs I fetched from my garden pool dead a month ago have wiped out the small colony after it was making a comeback as well. First smooth newt in though, had to wait until April 8 last year...

Saw 2 water rail on the River Sow today and c110 wigeon. I've seen water rail this year but no wren, robin or starling yet. Mind I was fishing so in one limited spot.

The weather is throwing up some unusual sighrtings. Goshawk over the River Stour. Bittern on the banks of the Teme in Shropshire. Boxing Day at Molineux four meadow pipits and a grey wagtail took advantage of the only free grass for miles around and fed during the game, moving when the play took...

Saw a meadow pipit feeding on the sewage beds at Wombourne yesterday. Recent birds include teal on the Stour and also goosander. Oh and saw my first Stour otter as well, pleased with that.
