    My friend (who is not a birder but is very wildlife knowledgable) took these pics on January 1st. He described them as "hawk-like" birds "soaring" with light undersides. Said very high up so not a lot of detail. Could they possibly be Broad-winged Hawks in January in Massachusetts??

    Jim, I think the bird is looking over its left shoulder so to me, the leftmost piece of the bird we can see is its left wing. What do you mean by its back?

    Peregrine was my first impression. I've seen Red-tails on the same vent and there's very little chance this is a Kestrel size wise.
