    Hepatic Tanager

A Hepatic Tanager has been spotted in Wadena, Saskatchewan, Canada. This is the first sighting in the province and the 2nd in the country. A female was seen in Montreal in 1993. Here is a short video of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=knwKE3mv97E&NR=1

How do you expain yourself with binoculars?

There can be problems with using binocs. A small Canadian town once had a panic situation develop when several people phoned the police to report a man with binocs sitting in a car watching the little kids going into school. School notified parents and said all kids were to be picked up at the...

    newbie images

Lovely shots - congratulations. I would be dancing around with glee if I'd taken any of them! My favourite is the wren too and I'm wondering if any of the others were cropped. I think I'd prefer a little more space around the heron. sask

    is this ok?

I see what you mean. That is definitely better looking. I think I was maybe focussing on getting the bird bigger and missing the overall effect. Thank you so much for the comments. I am finding that I have very little idea of what makes a photo 'really good' and am hoping to pick up some...

    is this ok?

I took some photos of Bohemian waxwings eating the mountain ash berries in my yard. They were taken through a window on a very grey day (it was very cold outside, and anyway, opening the door made the birds fly away!). At the time I was aware that this wouldn't lead to top notch pictures - but...

    diopter help please

This forum seems to be inhabited by a wide range of experts who cheerfully share their knowledge. Thanks so much - maybe if I keep asking questions (and manage to remember the answers!) I will improve my computer skills and camera skills. Even if I never become expert I can certainly enjoy...

    diopter help please

Thank you. Generally I use the auto focus mode however there are occasions when I focus manually. Your explanation is helpful. Please excuse me if I show my ignorance here - but how does the screen know whether I'm using auto or manual? Surely the camera would record different levels of...

    monitor info needed

Thank you for the feedback guys. We think that much of our problem is due to OUR aging - the printed words look fuzzy to both of us - even when wearing our glasses. It is also way too small for our comfort. The bifocals we have just don't seem to have a 'spot' that suits us when reading...

    monitor info needed

We are finding it increasingly difficult to see things well on our monitor (Samsung 753DF). Our difficulties may be coming from our advancing age and vision problems I suppose. There again maybe the monitor is ready to get ditched for something better. Do monitors wear out, get fuzzier with...

    diopter help please

I have a Panasonic FZ10. I wear glasses some of the time. Mostly I find the glasses annoying when using the camera. Can someone please explain the proper use of the diopter? Do I set it while wearing my glasses? Do I then wear my glasses when using the camera or do I remove my glasses to use...

Can a decent pic. be taken in poor conditions?

Can a decent picture be taken in poor conditions? Thank you for replying. I posted a couple of photos in an earlier thread - named 'natural food'. It is down the page a bit from this thread. Certainly, even as a beginner, I realised that through a window wasn't going to lead to great...

Can a decent pic. be taken in poor conditions?

Can a decent pic.be taken in poor conditions? I have been really enjoying and appreciating the valuable comments in this thread. There are now several things I can try to improve my photos when shooting through a window on a very grey day. Presumably the pics I posted earlier - 'natural...
