    That's a really interesting comparison as I am currently bouncing back and forth between buying a 10x32 and 10x42 NL. Unfortunately I can't test neither of those where I live. So any insights are extremely valuable!

    So, back from skiing in Sjaunja. Yes, I would agree, 200 grams in a backpack, resting on your hip is not directly comparable to 200 grams more in a binocular. The binos hang from your neck, might be swinging around, bouncing etc. So I'm not sure if just saving up on body weight might be a good...

    Hm, the idea of a Habicht sure would be intriguing, however I think a combination of my current 8x30 with a 10x42 would yield higher combined utility than a 7x42 + 8x30. But then, I have never had the chance to even look AT a Swaro Habicht, let alone though one. A 10x50 sounds absolutely...

    Yes, absolutely. On the one hand, I know that if weight was really an issue, I could always take the lighter Nikon. However, weight is only an issue if I am out for several weeks. But then spending so much time outside is exactly when I want to have the good optics as I will be using it...

Though I now realize that my initial post was a bit unclear in that I am choosing between the 10x32 and 10x42, both as an addition to my current 8x30. However I think your statement about small differences in low light performance will also apply...

    @Stuarts vision you mean that the added weight is not wort the marginal increase in FOV? While I would be tempted to agree, the FOV difference isn't really an issue at all for me. Both are more than large enough!

    Good point! While I lack experience in buying used binos, I guess a lack of electronical parts, and the average user characteristics will make for a relatively safe used purchasing decision.

    The Noctivid's bright light advantage is an interesting point. I read about the NLs glaring issues so I guess this is what you are referring to. Definitely a good point to keep in mind but hard to test before buying.

    Curious. I never really had any issues with the MHG 8×30 but struggled noticeably with the 8×32 Trinovid. Maybe I am so used to the MHGs, that the transition as such resulted in weird eye placement? While testing my friend's 10×32 NL Pure I faced no issues whatsoever though.

    Thank you for the detailed answer. Maybe I have to postpone the purchasing decision indefinitely until I have the opportunity to test the binoculars in question. I was worried about eye placement in the Noctivid, knowing that my friend sold his due to this issue and testing the Trinovid.
