RFI watching roseate terns in Ireland

Hi folks! I read this topic while I’am in Ireland for a few days with Nu family: I will be in Dublin on Sunday the 17th June and without my scope I was wondering to twitch Roseate Tern, Skerries is more suitable than Dalkey. Could I see the terns from the Dalkey harbour? Any local assistance...

    Iberian Chiffchaff ID (Spain)

I just returned from a holiday trip to Malaga (Andalucia, S Spain) with an ID doubt concerning 2 chiffchaffs seen and photographed December 6th, at Desembocadura del Gudalhoce close to Malaga. The birds were very close but they did not call. My identification was Iberian Chiffchaff...

    Birding sites on Crete

I was in Crete for holiday last week and has a single birding opportunity: I visited Roza's Gorges close to Avlou where I saw Griffon Vultures and Ravens. This is indeed to report I got a nice view of Western Rock Nuthatch (Sitta neumayer) which is supposed to be very rare on the island...

    Mauritius

I just visited Machabee forest 2 days ago from Le Petrin. It was a windy day with some showers i saw Mauritius Grey White-eye (common), Red-whiskered Bulbul and at least 4 White-tailed Tropicbirds flying over the gorge. I was getting down to the view-point when I met a couple of british (non...

    Very strange gull in Italy!

Yes, I agree. Black-billed Gull never shows the black ear spot, which in our mystery gull is reminiscent of a BHG. The bird is even larger than the nearby BHGs, and it is unlikely (IMO) the odd legs and bill coloration comes from some atypical stained artifact. Any other idea?

Juvenile LT or Arctic Skua? Turin, Italy

:eek!: :eek!: Micro Pom ?! How micro can a Pom be? The size of the bird was slighly smaller than a YL Gull. No one in the field tought it may be a Pom but today's pictures (see attach.) show features in the underwing attributable to Pom... We gave up :-C so it's of your stuff ;) I also...

Juvenile LT or Arctic Skua? Turin, Italy

We managed to have a shot in flight. I apologize for the trivial request but in the field it appeared a regular Arctic Skua to me. Doubts emerged when I posted the photos to our national forum and some pointed to the neat barring on undertail coverts, the presence of a sort of pectoral band...

    Italian Sparrows

In the last decade, Spanish Sparrow is expanding North along the Italian peninsula, with new breeding sites reported in Marche (C Italy) and in the Po Delta. This means that Spanish now occurs, forming pure colony, where Italian was formerly widespread. It is reasonably that Italian is probably...

    **HELP NEEDED** Unidentified Shrike

The head looks grey with a wash of brown. It's the only feature not really neat and distinctive suggesting somehow a hybrid shrike. Pictures by A.Nicoli.

    **HELP NEEDED** Unidentified Shrike

Here another picture showing the very particular undertail pattern, the color of the head is grey with a dull brown wash depending on how the light hits the crown. The presence of the bar on the wing coverts is a strange effect not always visible on the field. Probably the feathers are abraded...

    **HELP NEEDED** Unidentified Shrike

Bay-backed Shrike? Here a different picture of the same bird. Note the long tail, the fine beak, the faint orange flanks The appearance is very much as a Bay-backed Shrike L.vittatus, but the crown is brown and not grey. Can a 2cy Bay-backed Shrike show this features?
