Birding the UK in the fall

Planning a trip to the UK in the fall of 2017 (Sept - Oct). Wondering if there are birding festivals or planned outings in those months that I should take into consideration. At the moment, my itinerary is wide open. Thanks for any help.

    Photo organization and basic editing

Thank you Kieth and Niels. I too have not enjoyed my Picassa experiences. Will try out both ACDSee and FastStone. Regards, Ron

    Photo organization and basic editing

Hi, I see that it's been several years since this topic came up. I'm looking for a convenient and worthy program to sort and organize my digital photo files. The program should also be ale to handle basic editing. I've been using Irfanview, but it does not organization functions. Photoshop...

    What about Canon filters?

Hi all, I just purchased a new 100-400 USM, and would like to add a UV filter. (I know the pros and cons of using a protective filter). I've read quite a bit about the Hoya and B&W filters, but not a word about the Canon EF UV filter - good or bad. My question is, why not use a Canon filter on...

Vortex Razor HD 50, real alternative?

I enjoyed using the vortex 50. It was bright and crisp. It's 11 - 33 zoom allows it to be used in somewhat wooded areas, but is limited when scanning fields and bodies of water. Just depends on what you want, and where you want it. :)

    Vortex Viper compared well

Been thinking about purchasing a 65mm (15-45) scope to compliment our Fieldscope ED82. Wanted to stay under $1,000. While at the Magee Marsh Birding festival last week I had the chance to make side-by-side comparisons of: Viper HD65 Viper Razor 65 Celestron Regal M265ed Vanguard 65 Endeavor HD...

    Tripod for 100-400 Lens

Hi, It may be obvious, but just to make sure - the manfrotto 055 series are significantly taller than the 190 series. Very similar otherwise. Consider your height, and whether your scope is straight or angled when making a selection. In general though, I would think the 055's would handle the...

    Canon 600d newbie

Congratulations! A very nice camera. A couple of suggestions: Experiment with aperture priority (AV) to get a feel for that 300mm lens on fixed objects in a variety of ISO settings - especially 200 - 800. Then do the same with shutter priority (TV). Since you are new to the camera, you might...

Tripod - Nikon Fieldscope 82mm ED Spotting Scope

700rc2 head is great but will not accommodate my dslr cameras. I switched to the Manfrotto 3160 (128?) which can handle scope and camera nicely.

    Castroville and Big Bend

Thanks good information there. I was not familiar with Sabal Palms. Doubt we'll get to the Valley, but maybe! I'll check out Texbird for local sightings. Thanks again. rw

    Castroville and Big Bend

Howdy, Will be in the area of Castroville, for a week or so. Also a few days in Big Bend. Will try for a one-day run to the Corpus coast if possible. Familiar with the areas, but not familiar with what's being seen now. Hints and tips appreciated! rw
