    New Tascam DR-100 Mk III

Ah, thanks. Didn't think of that option. I've contacted the Dutch 'Tascam repair company' and they'll send me a cost estimate. Wonder how much it will be...

    New Tascam DR-100 Mk III

After years of (pretty intensive) usage the USB port broke down, so the internal battery can't be charged nor an external one can be connected. I'm planning to send it to Tascam for repair. If there's anyone here who has experience with this, I'd be happy to know.

Hearing aids for hearing bird calls

Can you tell me how that 'tailoring' went? I'm using my aids almost exclusively for birding and had them programmed for more higher frequencies when I got 'em, but I think it's not quite optimal at the moment. I'm using them for almost 5 years now and have never returned for 'maintenance' so...

    Field guides on color e-readers?

In my case that would be a very rare occasion, and like The_Fern said; there are lot's of ways around it. In that almost hypothetical situation all other 'batttery dependant' stuff like camera's and phone's would be left at home and birding becomes a rather primitive endeavour, especially when...

    Field guides on color e-readers?

Great question. Being able to check multiple guides in the field without having the hassle to carry along kilograms of books would be far more practical.

    Breskens migration watch next week

Curious to hear if the OP was at Breskens yesterday. Another 'crazy day' in the history of this spot. National record breaking numbers for Spotted Flycatcher, Marsh Harrier and Kestrel, and some other birds ;) https://www.trektellen.nl/count/view/1/20240512?language=english

    Breskens migration watch next week

Days in May with (south)easterlies 3 of 4 Bft. produced stellar numbers and species. 2 Bft. can be okay, but is mostly leading to less birds 'blown' towards the spot. Check trektellen.nl to see what these circumstances can bring. For example: https://trektellen.nl/count/view/1/20020513 I use...

    Breskens migration watch next week

When looking at the forecast from Saturday on it starts to get exciting when (south-) easterlies start to kick in. For Breskens these are the best wind directions. Especially Sunday and Tuesday are looking good now, although it is pretty far ahead and not every source is forecasting the same...

    8x32 advice?

The SF8x32's for me are 'spot on', but I'm aware this can be very personal. They're indeed somewhat large for a x32, but for someone with relatively bigger hands (like myself) this is a pro rather than a con. A smaller size would be just too small... I used to own a SF10x42 which is fairly...

    April Moths

Interesting. I had four Powdered Quakers last night. For me it was my first record in three years of mothing here in the southwestern part of the Netherlands. Good year for this species?

    Your most anticipated futures books

Well, I own both and my experience is the Van Duivendijk is really filling the gap between the 'classic field guide' and the 'coffee table book sized' Shirihai in size as well as in content, focussing on ID and field characters. The Shirihai also deals with distribution, biometrics...

    Your most anticipated futures books

Yes, and maybe this explains why there was space to add 15 non-native species as well as more photographs (of e.g. 'hybrid type' Lesser Scaup, comparative head patterns of Great Blue- and Grey Heron, wingpattern 1st winter Pintail etc.) as stated by the author on the Dutch Birding forum.

Hearing aids for hearing bird calls

Great to find this tread. For me hearing loss unfortunately is a genetic thing. In my family almost everyone has it in some sort of way and I already got treated for it in my teens. As a birder it's really confronting when not hearing the Tree pipits on your migration spot when everybody else...

    Your most anticipated futures books

It's a fantastic set and suprisingly easy to use. The version mentioned above is enhanced compared to the 2022 Dutch press I own, which makes me consider upgrading to this press (already).
