    Velbon PH-157Q head maintenance...

That's very kind. I'll have a go at greasing its innards first. If that doesn't help, I'll be in touch!

    Velbon PH-157Q head maintenance...

I came here with exactly the same query Markus. Did you ever resolve the issue with your PH157Q pan head?

    Raptor ID, Hampshire, UK

Thanks Lou and Nutcracker. I was surprised at how long the tail looked and how the middle tail feathers seem longer than the others - wedge-like. Could be trick of the wind?

    Raptor ID, Hampshire, UK

Can anyone help with ID for this raptor seen in the last week near Stockbridge, Hants. The observer described it as 'huge' and was sure it was a Red Kite - but the tail looks wrong.

    Three-toed Woodpecker, in Berlin???

Thanks! Thank you everyone - it is very helpful to have some local advice on this. I will assume that I was mistaken and the poor light was playing tricks on my ageing eyesight! :) Best wishes.

    Three-toed Woodpecker, in Berlin???

I was in Berlin last weekend and on Monday went for an early morning walk in Grosser Tiergarten to enjoy the Goshawks and Tree Sparrows. I heard a woodpecker drumming on a pine tree by a stream towards the Grosser Duerallee area of the Tiergarten. The bird appeared to be similar in size to a...

    Sedge or Aquatic?

I found this very yellowish Sedge Warbler at West Bexington DWT Reserve yesterday morning - it appeared to have a pale crown stripe like Aquatic but dark lores like Sedge - I managed to get two distant shots before it dived into the reedbed and did not reappear.

Unidentified Warbler and Finchy thing - UK

Nope, that'll do nicely. I'll go Juv Yellowhammer and brush up on my English comprehension.

Unidentified Warbler and Finchy thing - UK

1st is Reed Warbler for sure. The bunting certainly not Cirl as there is no discernible eye-stripe, which would be prominent even on female (and it's not in S Devon...). The head/bill shape is good for Corn Bunting for me, but plumage around breast and throat is more YH. I would have expected...

    Dorset birding

What a great birding moment the Grey Phalarope must have been! I have a soft spot for Charmouth too! Nice to hear that there's a chance of Dipper around Lyme. I see there is a LNR called Trinity Hill near my campsite - mostly lowland heath habitat so I'll have a mooch about there for 'chats...

    Dorset birding

I won't be travelling far - planning to spend most of the week sat in a camping chair watching whatever moves in the nearest trees and water margins. But thanks for looking mate.

    Dorset birding

Hi Dorset birders, I'm sure you get a lot of this but...I'll be spending a week in the Monkton Wyld/Charmouth area next week and I wonder where are the best places to go birding in that part of West Dorset - and is there anything interesting about at the moment? Cheers. Pete
