Habicht 8x30 and Zeiss Conquest HD

Didn't want to start a new thread, but wanted to give a shout out to Swarovski service. I bought an old 8x30 Habicht (1960) on fleabay as a spare for the car since I liked the first so much, but they came with a very stiff and rough focusing mechanism. Obviously no warranty so I paid to have...

Habicht 8x30 and Zeiss Conquest HD

So I bought the 8x30 Habichts and I love them. The others are all great as well, but this is the one I fell in love with. Veiling is present and the focuser is a little stiffer that on my Zeiss, but once you know its limitations it is a wonderful piece and still very capable. Strangely, just...

First time birding, Barn Island Connecticut

Went birding for the first time, assuming you don't count watching from the back porch. Found the local Audobon Society group putting on a free walk and I tagged along for half the day before heading back home to help with the kiddos and give my wife some free time if here own. Good group and...

Thinking 8x32 for size, but not married to it.

Habicht 8x30 and Zeiss Conquest HD

I realize these two binoculars are apples and oranges, but has anyone used both that can offer views on both? I have a 60s version of the Habicht I keep at office for watching submarines sail away, but want an 8x for birding. Haven't played with a new Habicht with better coatings though I'm okay...

    Any groups in southeast CT?

Thanks. I would not have ever found that. Googling didn't help me this time I'm afraid. I've signed up and I'll see what happens now!

    Any groups in southeast CT?

Greetings all. I'm in the far southeastern corner of CT, maybe 20 minutes from Rhode Island. Anyone know of any birding groups in this area? I'm a complete novice at this and want to get into it with my 9 year old son. The closest I've seen is a less active group near Essex. Thanks.

Big fan of Porro prism .

All, thanks for the info. Absolutely right on not understanding the difference between the objective lens and the transmission value. All good. For now I'll be happy with my Zeiss Classics and the old Habicht. I should spend more time birding to make sure I really like it enough before...

Big fan of Porro prism .

Let me know if I'm asking this in the wrong place please, but I'm trying to get a feel for the difference between a porro with very high transmission and a roof prism with a larger diameter. In this case I'm looking at a Habicht 8x30w which has a 96% (maybe 98 I don't recall exactly) and a high...

    Good service from Zeiss US

NDhunter, what is the smaller bino in you avatar picture? Looks like a 8x30.

    Good service from Zeiss US

Oh, it's great to hold. I got it because I was so surprised how easy I my father's set was so I got the same. Easiest 10x set to hold steady I'd used to that point.

    Habicht warranty in the US?

Still torn, but there is no rush. The EII is less than half the price, but my concern is that EII won't have any service options since it would be a grey market import shipped from Japan. Amazon was able to get someone to sell the EII in the US, but didn't have the muscle to make Nikon offer a...

    Good service from Zeiss US

Picts Didn't mean to take so long to respond. Been stuck doing research all week. Here are three picts. Flash wasn't very kind, I think they look much better in natural light but I had a few moments to get this done so I had to jump.

    Good service from Zeiss US

No. I got the B&H deal for 779. It was my OCS graduation present to myself. Saved the receipt. It's a 10x40 though, not 42. There is a little rolling ball to them, but it doesn't bother me. Never knew it had a name until this forum. Still have to figure out how to post pictures of it though.

    Habicht warranty in the US?

You nailed why the Habicht is so appealing to me.
