    Just returned from Chester.Managed a day in Burton Mere. Got female hen and marsh harrier, with 300-400 lapwing. Mostly teal, black tailed godwit, greenshank, redshank and shoveler. Recommend this RSPB site, with new cosy visitor centre and proper hides. (no cafe though)

    Just returned from Chester. Good day at Burton Mere on Saturday. Got the hen harrier and marsh harrier, lack tailed godwit and lovely to see so many hundreds of lapwing. (North Gwent has lost most of its lapwing due to idealist industrial regeneration.) Cheers!

    Moth trapping @ Ebbw Vale ERC Friday, 8.30 Gwent Wildlife Trust, hosted by Rodney Morris. Garden... Greater spotted woodpecker fledgling with "father" on the peanuts earlier.

    Garden feeders packed with young blue tits and great tits. Fun bit is watching them trying to land on water! Also noted was the reason why my peanuts disappear so quickly.:C

    Uskmouth quiet this pm, with only tufted ducks and chiffchaff in abundance. Occasional house martins and a few swallows flying over.

    Mostly siskins, goldfinches, chaffinches, bull finches 2M&2F, and 2 redpoll. Wood pigeons and collared doves hovering up the spilt seed. Cats hovering up the wood pigeons (or trying to!)

    Yes. Greater spotted woodpeckers are regular garden visitors now. 2 cuckoos can be heard on either side of the valley.

    Deal! Today had 2 garden firsts (in 18 years), collared dove and house sparrow. Weird, but I feel that Victoria has been accepted, at last.

    Guess what, Al. Mostly siskins and usual assortment, and a brambling. No redpolls though.
